Swimming Carnival

Congratulations to all Yr 8 students who participated in the Redlands Secondary School Swimming Carnival. What a wonderful example of House spirit and courage. The level of positivity for participation and encouragement across the Year Group for not only their peers, but their House, was exceptional.

It was exciting to note that Yr 8 had one of the highest levels of participation across all Year Groups, and of course, a huge congratulations to Dumolo who won the House Shield. Students should be very proud of their efforts. Further congratulations to the following students:

U13 Boys – Runner Up – Charles Hargrave
U13 Girls – Runner Up – Charlotte Humphreys
U14 Girls – Runner Up – Ruby Holgate

“The Swimming Carnival is always such a fun experience that I and many others look forward to each year. My highlight was seeing the peers around me encouraging each other to go into race after race, and the excitement of seeing their peers finish their races was always a moment that was great to see throughout the day. Seeing and being part of the House spirit on this day was great and built a positive atmosphere for everyone which is so important for a carnival. Also, participating in events is so important for everyone to get out there and out of their comfort zone to develop themselves as an individual. Of course, we cannot forget the House points you receive too! This will be a day I’ll look forward to every year as it should be for everyone else, whether you’re a competitive racer or simply to get out of the classroom and have some fun.” Annabelle Hwang

“Some of my highlights of the Swimming Carnival were being able to watch my friends participate in their races and see everyone do so well. Being involved and participating is so good for you and still important even if you don’t think you’re good enough. Having fun is one of the most important parts of the day. As a swimmer, the House spirit gets you hyped up, ready and excited for your races”. Charles Hargraves

“For me, the Swimming Carnival is a great time of the year. Despite the COVID restrictions, I usually love the chanting and cheering, but most importantly, the House spirit. Seeing so many students participating is awesome. Participation is important because it supports your House and adds points to the final carnival tally. It is also really important to have a go at everything and do your best even if you might not come first. House spirit is important because it creates a bond between different people in different age groups. It also gives the people who may not be able to, or want to compete, a chance to show some competitive spirit.” Angus McInnes
