Year 8
Pastoral Care
The Pastoral Care focus this week for Yr 8 was based on the Personal Bank Account (PBA) affiliated with the seven Habits of Highly Effective Teenagers. Some of the hardest battles in life are the ones fought within yourself, and it is through these battles, we learn to channel our inner strength and develop character; it is then, that we truly grow. Our self-esteem, or how we feel about ourselves, operates like a bank account. Just like a savings account at a bank, we can make deposits into, or withdrawals from our PBA by the things we think, say or do. To keep the balance in our account positive, we need to have more deposits than withdrawals. The more deposits we make into our PBA, the better we feel about ourselves, both in self-esteem and self-confidence.
Student Achievements
Over the long weekend, Sasha Jansz attended the Nunawading Spectres Basketball Tournament in Melbourne with her U16 Division 2 Norths team, a prestigious tournament with over 600 teams competing. This was a very tough competition, however a wonderful experience for Sasha and her team. They are to be congratulated on winning their division which was an extraordinary result.
Announcements
On Friday 17 June, Yr 8 will be visiting the Sydney Institute of Marine Science on Friday. They will be exploring the impact we have on our local marine environment and putting into practice things they have covered in Geography and Science so far this year. It is important that they come dressed in their PE uniform, preferably wearing their tracksuit pants and warm fleece as they will be outside for much of the day. Students will also need to bring their recess and lunch as we will not have access to the shops for the day.
Tuesday 26 June – Redlands Secondary School Athletics Carnival. Electronic permission via Redlands Pulse will be open shortly and your timely assistance with this is much appreciated.
Wednesday 8 August – Yr 8 Parent Teacher Night. Booking information will be emailed to parents closer to the event.
In the coming weeks, Redlands will be having a donation drive for socks, underwear and toiletries for Matthew Talbot. Students are encouraged to donate to this most important cause. This drive will continue on into the first couple of weeks in Term 3.
