Year 7

NSW Schools Vaccination Program

The Northern Sydney Public Health Unit will be holding a NSW Schools Vaccination Program clinic on Tuesday 12 November to administer dose two of the Human Papillomavirus Vaccine (HPV) to Yr 7 students who received the first dose earlier this year in March. Parents are not required to complete any further documentation for students receiving dose two. Please ensure your child has had a good breakfast on the morning of the vaccination. A Record of Vaccination card will be provided to each student vaccinated at each clinic. Parents/guardians should ensure that this record is kept for future reference and should not assume that their child has been vaccinated if they do not receive this Record of Vaccination. Students who commence HPV vaccinations in school clinics in Yr 7, but do not complete the course during the school year, may be offered catch-up doses at school in Yr 8. Winter School 2020

Even though summer is about to hit us, it is time to get ready for Winter School 2020. In our historic 25th year of operation, this is an experience not to be missed. This year we are getting started early to help everyone plan ahead for the year to come. The Winter School Information night will be held in Redlands Hall at 6.00pm on Monday 18 November.

Applications open on Monday 11 November. The online application form and information can be found on Redlands Pulse.

Exams

Congratulations to all Yr 7 students on a fantastic first round of Yearly Examinations. Students came prepared each morning with all of their materials. They took the experience seriously and understood the expectations of the exams. As examinations are returned to students over the next few weeks, we strongly encourage students to use their feedback for further improvement. As a cohort, we are focusing on four steps:

  1. Check marks carefully
  2. Celebrate correctly answered questions
  3. Learn the content from incorrectly answered questions
  4. Ask the teacher for further clarification with things that are not understood
This Week

Students participated in two full days of Surf Education at Long Reef Beach. It was a wonderful way to ease back into classes after the exam block and a great chance for students to learn some life skills while enjoying time together outdoors.

Several Yr 7 students are participating in Service opportunities throughout the remainder of term. Students are raising money and spreading awareness for Assistance Dogs Australia and Anglicare Toys ‘n’ Tucker.

For Assistance Dogs Australia, there will be several events students can participate in and donate by making a gold coin donation.  For Anglicare Toys ‘n’ Tucker, the key message is ‘Sharing the Christmas joy by making a small contribution’.

Pastoral Care

This term, our Pastoral Program focuses on summarising notes and consolidating information, self-reflection, positive psychology and giving back to our community through service.

We will continue to work through Dr Prue Salter’s Study Skills website and the first three habits from 7 Habits of  Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey.
