Year 7
This Week
All students this week enjoyed the Prefect Assembly on Tuesday focusing on effort and what effort looks like to the individual and to others. We often forget that when we see someone doing well in a course or performing well in a sport, we only see the final product. People do not always see the hours of endless practice and failures that contribute to the final product. This week students are marking their effort for the second time this year through Approaches to Learning: Diligence, Engagement and Behaviour. Students will use this data to reflect on improvement since the beginning of the term, evaluate their progress toward their Term 2 goals and make new goals for Term 3. These marks will be shared with students and parents as Approaches to Learning Grades.
Congratulations to Roseby White for submitting a Careers Quiz with the most accurate answers last Friday! Ms Simone Salier will be organising a special morning tea as a prize for this Tutor Group in the weeks to come. An honourable mention was awarded to Dumolo Red for the fastest responses. Well done to all Tutor Groups who participated.
At our Year Meeting this week, students will be introduced to a student run study and support session. These sessions will run each Wednesday through the end of term during Yr 7 Tutor classes. Students will be asked to identify any questions they have from one of their subjects or an overall organisation or academic question to bring with them each week. Based on the topic of their question, students will be divided into groups and rotate as the presenter to work through their questions out loud. Each group will use a Socratic method of questioning to support each presenter to answer their own question, using notes, identifying any points of confusion and supporting, as necessary, with guidance and hints. If your child is finding a certain topic challenging, encourage them to choose a question from that subject to bring with them on Wednesday.
Year 7 Science class:
” We were separating mixtures. We heated up the salt water to separate the salt and water. The water evaporated and left the salt behind.” – James Ashby, Yr 7
