Year 7

Preparation for Examinations

This week, our Yr 7 students have focused on their exam preparation. In both Tutor Time and during lessons, teachers have worked closely with our students to offer strategies and encourage sound preparation. For those students who may struggle with task initiation perhaps due to a tendency to procrastinate, The Study Skills Handbook has an excellent unit titled, Overcoming Procrastination.

Kristin School Auckland NZ Exchange Opportunity

This week, a letter will be sent to Yr 7 parents and students with details about a New Zealand school exchange opportunity. Redlands has a long-standing connection with Kristin School in Auckland and in pre- COVID years, we offered a reciprocal exchange opportunity. It is exciting that next year we will again afford this opportunity to a small group of Yr 8 students. The letter will give further detail and a link to an expression of interest form.

Competitive Debating Trials for 2023 – Deadline Approaching

Well done to the 80 students who have already signed up to trial for competitive Debating in 2023! They have appreciated the opportunity to have coaching and a flexible approach to trial dates.

Just a reminder, that all students in Years 7-11 who wish to be considered for competitive Debating at any time in 2023 need to trial this term. Trials at the start of next term will be for new students only.

The Cut off for Signing up is Wednesday 26 October

Students should let the Debating staff know, with as much notice as possible, if they are not able to attend a trial date for which they have signed up.

Further information about 2023 Debating Trials can be found here.

The sign-up form for Debating trials 2023 is here.

Please contact Mrs Rachel Beggs, Debating Coordinator and Aria McCarthy-Lochner, Head Coach Debating, with any queries.

Yr 7 HPV dose 2 and dTpa Vaccinations, Thursday 3 November 2022

Each year NSW Health works in partnership with schools to offer the vaccines recommended by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) for adolescents as part of the school vaccination program.

The final clinic for 2022 will take place on Thursday 3 November. It will offer the Year 7 HPV dose 2 and dTpa (whooping cough) vaccines.

Parent Information Kits with consent cards have already been completed parents earlier in the year and there is no further administrative action required.

On the day of the vaccination clinic please ensure:

  • your child eats breakfast
  • your child brings a mask to wear whilst in the clinic
  • your child does not attend school if they are unwell or if they have any symptoms of Covid

Absent Students

Please note that to improve vaccination completion, Year 7 students will be offered a catch-up vaccination at a subsequent clinic in 2023 if they have missed a vaccination in 2022. They do not need to go to their GP for the missed vaccine.

A Record of Vaccination will be provided to each student vaccinated at each clinic as a physical card. Details about vaccinations given at school will also be uploaded to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) to support complete vaccination histories. Parents can obtain this through the myGov website or the Express Plus Medicare Mobile app. (Anyone aged 14 years or older has to get their own statement).
