Year 7

The Year Group have had an exciting week as they have had the opportunity to engage in a variety of experiences. On Monday, students visited the Chau Chak Wing Museum at Sydney University. Half the cohort attended on Monday with the remaining half visiting on Friday. Monday was a brilliant day, as the sun shone and students were delighted to be visiting the University and experiencing something new. The newly built and architect designed museum houses the Nicholson and Macleay Collections as well as the University Art Collection. These diverse collections include antiquities, natural history artefacts, ethnography, science and historic photography, together with the University Art Collection united in one multidisciplinary institution.

Students had the opportunity to view artefacts from ancient Greece, Rome and Egypt. A highlight was the opportunity for experiential learning, where students assumed the role of a historian/ archaeologist, with each student wore gloves to examine an ancient artefact. Students were then tasked with determining the origin and purpose of the object. This experience will be a great launch pad for Year 7’s study of Ancient Rome, which is their next topic of study.

Many thanks to Ms Eleanor Martin for her organisation of this learning event and to the teachers who accompanied students: Mr Skinner, Ms Peterson and Ms Eastbrook.

On Thursday, students attended the Dr Tessa Opie Relationships and Sexuality Presentation. Dr Opie’s workshops support young people to develop healthy relationship skills. Students are encouraged to actively consider their relationship values and expectations, and to develop a healthy and realistic sense of self and ‘other’.

In Tutor Time next week, we will launch iGrow with our Yr 7 students. iGrow is an exciting new data platform that has been developed by Redlands to track holistically and nurture the academic growth and wellbeing of every student from Preschool to Year 12. This innovative program highlights where every student’s light shines and is used to reflect on growth and realise potential through regular coaching conversations and goal setting.

I look forward to seeing you at the Redlands Spring Fair on Saturday. Many thanks to the RPFA and our parent volunteers for all their efforts in preparation for Saturday.
