Year 7

Much has been happening for our Yr 7 students in the first weeks of Term 3. Tutors have met one to one with students for Connection Conversations. These discussions have been student led and have provided them with the opportunity to have a sounding board for their semester goals. The aim of these sessions has been for students to understand the value of goal setting and that through process and the formation of good habits their goals can be achieved. Please do take the time to ask your child about the goals that they have formulated for this semester. We have encouraged them to make them “SMART” – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time Bound.

It was wonderful to see so many students attend Gala Arts 2022 last Friday night. This is always a special night on the Redlands calendar and this year was no different. The atmosphere and quality of performances made for a wonderful evening. A special congratulations to our Yr 7 students Isabella Solgaard, Tara Ward and Emma Cruttenden who performed. I wish to acknowledge their collective achievement of being selected to participate as part of this whole Secondary School event.

A big shout out must go to Finn Gurney Yr 7, as last Friday he participated in the NSW All Schools Cross Country Championships. He finished in the Top 30 runners which was a fantastic result considering he has never raced at State level and he was also the third CIS Athlete to cross the line.

House Debating

We have had a strong response in terms of Yr 7 students wishing to participate in our House Debating Competition, which will take place throughout Term 3. Students who may not make the final teams should still come along to the coaching sessions, as debating is a great activity to promote confidence; develop creative and critical thinking skills, along with collaborative strategies.

In Wks 3 – 5, our Yr 7’s will begin coaching with Yr 11 students to prepare for these debates. During Wk 6 we have Cowper versus Dumolo; Wk 7 MacDouall versus Roseby and the Yr 7 Final is slated to occur live in the Edwards Auditorium Week 9.

Many thanks to our Yr 7 Tutor, Ms Rachel Beggs (rbeggs@redlands.nsw.edu.au) for her organisation of this event.
