International Women’s Day

On Tuesday we celebrated International Women’s Day with a whole school webinar led by our School Captains, Sophia Maxwell and Jack Murray. Guest speaker, Captain Casey Scully-O’Shea CSC, RAN, provided students with a wonderful insight into her past, current and future aspirations as a female leader within the Defence Force. Captain Scully-O’Shea joined the Royal Australian Navy through the Australian Defence Force Academy in 1995 and her career highlights include supporting Border Protection Operations as an Officer of the Watch and later Navigating Officer of HMAS Cessnock, and an exchange posting to the Royal Canadian Navy Sail Training Ship HMCS Oriole.  She was awarded a Conspicuous Service Cross in 2020 for her outstanding achievement in the field of recruiting and in February 2022, she was appointed as Director of Navy Culture. Captain Scully-O’Shea spoke to students about the importance of finding your own success, that is unique to you, and how equality is about providing a culture of support to enable voices to be heard from diverse groups of people.
