Year 11

Exam Wrap Up

Students are now starting to receive their results back from the recent Yr 11 examinations. Please take the time to have conversations with your son or daughter about how they are feeling in relation to these results. For many students, the Yr 11 formal examinations mark a big step up and for many it was quite a different experience from previous examinations. I have discussed with students the need to manage any disappointment and see it as an opportunity to refocus and explore further some areas of content. Students have been encouraged to speak with me and their Tutor should they feel disappointed about their results.

Welcome

I would like to welcome new student, Brooke Adderton, to our Year Group. Brooke and her family have relocated from California. Parents, Jaye and Peter Adderton have Avalon in Yr 1, Siena in Yr 10 and Brooke in Yr 11. I know that you will all make the Adderton family feel very welcome.

R U OK? Day

Today is R U OK? Day and in order to draw attention to the important topic of mental health, the day focuses on ‘it is okay not to be okay’, and how to support to others after this question has been asked. Students have been given guidance about how to have a conversation with a friend if they have expressed that they are struggling and how to seek help. This is an important message for us all and I encourage everyone to take a moment at some point over the next few days to reflect on how we are feeling, as well as check in on a friend if you concerned for them. Given the Covid 19 climate, this is perhaps even more pertinent than in times past.

If you would like further information on this, or guidance on how to start a conversation, there are some fantastic resources on the R U OK Day website https://www.ruok.org.au/. The main message is encouraging people to follow four key steps:

Mufti Day Tomorrow

To raise money and awareness for mental health, the Yr 12 Prefects are also organising a mufti day that will take place tomorrow with the request that students wear a touch of yellow.
