Year 11
Welcome Back
The school was a buzz yesterday as students returned from their Summer break. It was wonderful to see our Yr 11 students excited for this new chapter as they commence their senior studies. I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to all returning students as well as our new students and families as we start the new year. We are delighted to welcome the following students: Amelia (Millie) Ford (Sydney), Jules Kabbaj Fermin (Sydney), Colette Laliberte (Anchorage, Alaska), Kelly Balarin (Singapore) and Miriam Toivainen (Helsinki, Finland). In addition, it was exciting to welcome Rex Markman back to the cohort after his cultural exchange immersion in Spain. On Wednesday, we were fortunate to hear our new Principal, Mr Stephen Webber, give the opening address at our Term 1 Welcome Assembly. Our students were interested to learn of Mr Webber’s background, experience and vision for Redlands as well as his expectations for students and community. I know that Yr 11 look forward to speaking with Mr Webber and sharing their aspirations for their next two years of schooling.

Student Achievements
It was delightful to hear students’ news and achievements realised over the holiday break. Please do write to me and share your child’s achievements as it is always significant to acknowledge our Yr 11 students either at our regular Year Assemblies or in Note Day.
Yale Young Global Scholars Program Offer
Kira Prado has been offered a position at the highly coveted Yale Young Global Scholars Program during the June/July break. The Yale Young Global Scholars Program is highly selective. Participants live and work together as a community in an environment that is curriculum tailored especially for high achieving high school students. Each session brings together an array of Yale’s best faculty and outside speakers to provide an intense, hands-on experience designed to challenge and inspire. We congratulate her on this significant achievement.
University of Sydney Computer Programming
During the holiday break, Theo Mirrlees-Black and Kira Prado attended the National Computer Science School at the University of Sydney. This was a ten day experience living on campus with over 100 other attendees. The experience proved enriching, by virtue of experienced tutors and the opportunity to meet new people with both similar interests from a variety of backgrounds. They worked collaboratively on project based work which they presented at the end of the week.
RSYS International Youth Match Racing Team
Jameson Prescott has been selected by the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron to participate in the under 25’s International Youth Match racing team to compete in two international regattas in Sydney and New Zealand. We look forward to hearing Jameson’s news of these two prestigious events and we wish him and his team every success in competition.
