Year 11

Students have settled back in to Term 2 really well. Many Redlands staff have been impressed with all our student volunteers who have been filling in for the Yr 12 Prefects while they are on exams. It has been pleasing to see the willingness and helpful attitudes displayed by those students and I encourage all students to gain as much experience and exposure while it is available.

Yr 11 Mock Trial

The Yr 11 Mock Trial team had their second round this week against St Ignatius College, Riverview, which was the school that won this NSW Law Society competition grand final last year. In a  very tightly fought trial, Redlands was the prosecution in a common assault case against the defence from Riverview. Our barristers (Renata Ferreira and Ali Lawrence) did a great job in presenting evidence and cross examining the defence witnesses, instructed admirably by their solicitor (Emily Colvin). Our two prosecution witnesses (Leilani Heath and Maddie Howard) stood firmly by their story and handled the pressure of cross examination very well. The acting Magistrate was assisted by the Clerk of the Court (Stephanie Larcos). Redlands won the Trial and now go undefeated into Round 3 against Wenona in a couple of weeks.

Red Shield Appeal

The Salvo’s Red Shield Door Knock is coming up on 29 May. The Red Shield Appeal is The Salvation Army’s signature fundraising drive which helps fund their vast network of social and community services.

The Red Shield Appeal began in 1965 and is promoted under their recognisable symbol – the red shield. Each year, The Salvation Army appeals to the Australian community for donations to ensure they can give hope where it is needed most through their social welfare and community service programs.

Every year a small army of Redlands Yr 11 students conduct the door knock around our local Cremorne community. We will be looking for about 100 students to team up into groups of four. They will be allocated a zone with specific streets to cover. We meet at school on Sunday 29 May at 8.30am and after completing their territory, they return to school to bank the funds and have a BBQ. Please encourage your child to participate.
