Year 11
Managing Motivation
Some students use ‘I don’t have any motivation’ as an excuse for not doing work. You have to accept that these are just excuses you are using to justify doing what you want to do – ie. doing no work! It is a cop-out and it is really due to fear – even though you probably don’t want to admit it. What is going on in your mind, even though you probably don’t realise it, is that you are secretly afraid of doing badly at school. The fear of failure or not meeting expectations has led you to look for excuses to not do any work so that if you do go badly – then it is not because you tried and failed it is because you didn’t do any work! It is a safety mechanism your brain is putting in place. To make a change you have to take responsibility for your performance and realise that you are the only person who can change the situation.
Sports Achievements
Basketball
Good luck to all the Basketball players this weekend in the Finals.
Rowing
Congratulations to Alex Coney, Max Durrant, Stephanie Larcos, Madeleine Howard, Mitchell Simpson, Mathew White and Nicholas Wilkes for their brilliant results at the Head of the Lake in Canberra on the weekend. We certainly hope that some of those close results go in our favour next weekend at the Head of the River.
Peru Expedition Trek and Travel Day
On Sunday 24 February the Peru Expedition team, accompanied by Mr Gray and Ms Richardson, took part in their Trek and Travel Day. This was a training event where students worked together as a team with their Antipodeans Expedition Leader and travelling teachers. It’s an important step in the team preparation to travel overseas and was the first opportunity for the team to work with their Antipodeans Expedition Leader.
The day involved a combination of urban trekking and travel, designed to simulate experiences that the team will have overseas. It was a fun but tiring day, and the team impressed with their ability to problem solve and work together in preparation for their exciting Expedition in June.
