Year 10

Yr 10 Examinations

Formal correspondence around examinations has been emailed to Yr 10 parents. Students can also download a copy of the Examination timetable from the Yr 10 Pastoral Page on iLearn.

Yr 10 Visual Arts

Our Yr 10 Art students will be working with the Redlands Konica Minolta Artist in Residence (RKMAiR), Cameron Robbins. Some students have already been fortunate to meet Cameron and to spend time with him learning about his art practice. Cameron has selected a site on Senior Campus to build a site-specific artwork. He is a contemporary drawing practitioner with an exciting and innovative practice. Cameron creates structures that respond to the environment, particularly the wind and weather and from the harnessed energy, drawings are created. I would encourage you all to look at Cameron’s website, particularly his videos to gain an understanding of his work.

Science and Engineering Challenge 2019

Great team work has resulted in 31 students from Yrs 9 and 10 taking out the metropolitan Science and Engineering Challenge 2019. The day involved students engaging in a number of challenging engineering problem solving tasks including: building a robotic hand, a bridge and tower to withstand earthquakes.  Congratulations to all involved and thank you to Ms Aroney and Mr Wrighter for their guidance and organisation.

Amazon Web Services Summit

A reflection by Yr 10 Student Ela Yohannan

Last Wednesday, Redlands IST students had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Amazon Web Services Summit. It was a truly incredible experience. The day began with a presentation, where AWS invited several of their partners to show us how they used technology. Representatives ranged from companies such as Canva, a design platform for anyone, to companies such as Formula 1. The presentation opened our eyes and showed how much of an influence technology is on every sector of a person’s life. This even included machine learning and artificial intelligence. It’s undeniable, that a major part of our future careers will involve technology. Later, we attended a panel with representatives from AWS, such as Glen Gore – The Head of Solutions Architect at AWS. We learnt a lot about what the technology industry was like, leading all of us to think about possible futures in technology.

AWS also allowed us to explore current technology, having an activity which needed computational thinking to solve a maze puzzle involving Spheros – a spherical robotic toy. The goal was to create the maze and code the Sphero to complete the maze in the shortest time. The activity was challenging but nonetheless fun. To end our day, we had a project involving Alexa – Amazon’s virtual assistant. Introduced through Alexa, the project involved creating questions and programming a quiz on Alexa for another team. It was a wonderful way to end the day. Overall, we had an amazing time, as we were able to see where and how technology will advance and it gave us a better picture of the world ahead of us.
