Congratulations to the following students on this strong demonstration of ability and dedication to their instrument and performance:

The entire evening from start to finish was completely planned, presented, organised and set -up by students. It was an impressive evening with an exceptional group of young people. Special thanks to Mr Diego Idarraga who was the piano and guitar accompanist for the evening, to their markers Mr Joseph Montz and Mr Ben Castelli. Students also thanked Mr Castelli separately for his guidance, support and teaching throughout this year.
Assertive Behaviours Workshop through PDHPE
On Tuesday, Officer Brent Sanders presented the Assertive Behaviours Workshop for our students. He addressed genders separately to ensure topics were covered in the most appropriate, informative and supportive manner. Mr Sanders connected with students in a firm and direct yet approachable way with supportive and encouraging language, including a splash of humour. He navigated extremely real and sensitive topics around the legal definition of sexual assault in NSW and unlawful sexual touching. His key message to our Yr 10 students from his experience was that most people are genuinely good and when educated and provided accurate information, people make better decisions. He shared current statistics that young people between the ages 15-21 are most at risk of sexual crimes from someone in the same age bracket as themselves, usually friends in social settings.
Mr Sanders is an ex-policeman and spokesperson of Winning Edge Strategies. He has worked with thousands of young people throughout his time presenting to students on the topics of drugs, alcohol, consent and how these difficult situations and risky decisions are viewed in the eyes of the law. His aim is to support young people to take responsibility for themselves and their actions, developing awareness that life is based on choices, as well as championing the importance of respect and self-discipline.
Mr Sanders has worked with Redlands over the last eight years and he has presented at several other schools around Sydney. He was asked to share one of his presentations in a Podcast, found here.
Yr 10 Science
The 2022 International Competition and Assessment for Schools (ICAS) in Science is undertaken by over 400,000 students across Australia and the region and is a rigorous test of scientific thinking. Participation in the competition provides our students with excellent examination practice and an opportunity to see how they fare in competition with students of their own age from across the country.
Congratulations to the following competitors: Sholto Mirrlees-Black, Rafferty Heard, Antonia Morgan and Henry Moate
Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award
Several students in our cohort have expressed interest in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Program where students complete mandatory training sessions to gauge and refine a team’s competence and strengths to complete an adventurous journey.
Congratulations to Josephine Bannon and Jack Keogh for earning their Bronze Awards. Students are able to use the Yr 10 Camp to complete their Silver level and many students have taken up this opportunity.
Student Congratulations
Daisy Thomas has been committed to skiing since childhood and has embraced several opportunities to extend her experience and level of competition while balancing her secondary school commitments. Most recently, Daisy took a leap to attend Snowy Mountains Grammar School to continue challenging herself and to compete at an extremely high level appropriate for her abilities and her ambitions. Over the course of this year, Daisy was awarded the Australian Junior Freeski Athlete of the Year, she was nominated for the Junior Snow Athlete of the Year, she won the Open Female Division of the Thredbo Snow Series, she finished a close 2nd in the FIS Australian New Zealand Cup and she won both of the Big Air ski events in New Zealand and Australia, which she is now ranked in the top 50 in the world for the event. To top it off, she most recently was awarded an NSWIS Scholarship for Park & Pipe Freeskiing, which is a major achievement for a 15 year old athlete! Congratulations to Daisy on all of her success this year and we are so looking forward to continually following her journey in Snowsports.
Gianmarco Pradel has been committed to Go-Kart racing and more recently Formula 4 racing. He has dedicated his time, attention and focus to improving and mastering his racing capabilities all while balancing the increasing demands of Secondary School. Gianmarco pours himself into everything he puts his mind to and he has risen quite quickly to an international level. Gianmarco experienced several podiums at a national level in senior X30 and Rotax classes before heading to Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia to complete for a chance to join the Ferrari Driver Academy. Gianmarco is now one of two young Australians heading to Italy to compete in the Ferrari Driver Academy Scouting World Finals taking place at Maranello on 24-28 October. We are so proud to support Gianmarco from Sydney and wish him all the best in his races next week! For the full story, see this link.

Yr 10 Catch-Up Meningococcal ACWY Vaccinations Thursday 3 November 2022
Each year NSW Health works in partnership with schools to offer the vaccines recommended by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) for adolescents as part of the school vaccination program.
The final clinic for 2022 will take place on Thursday 3 November. It will offer a catch-up opportunity for the Year 10 Meningococcal vaccine.
Parent Information Kits with consent cards have already been completed parents earlier in the year and there is no further administrative action required.
On the day of the vaccination clinic please ensure;
- your child eats breakfast
- your child brings a mask to wear whilst in the clinic
- your child does not attend school if they are unwell or if they have any symptoms of Covid
A Record of Vaccination will be provided to each student vaccinated at each clinic as a physical card. Details about vaccinations given at school will also be uploaded to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) to support complete vaccination histories. Parents can obtain this through the myGov website or the Express Plus Medicare Mobile app. (Anyone aged 14 years or older has to get their own statement).
