End of Term 3 Wrap-Up

Yr 10 have had an exciting, productive, challenging and awareness-building term. On top of a rigorous course load, students have been presented with a lot of information to assist them in navigating responsible decision-making and developing their personal and social awareness even further. Students have experienced a shift in their friendship groups and looked within themselves to identify their true values and their contribution to their cohort and our Redlands community. We look forward to welcoming our Winter School students back to Redlands Sydney campus and sharing Term 3 experiences from both campuses. This is another chance for the cohort to learn from one another, build upon their growth and to support one another in this effort.

Next term, students will return to school with a focus on assessment preparation and completing their Yr 10 Examinations, they will be supported in further developing their leadership capabilities and engage in Yr 10 Camp and they will complete the term on a trajectory moving forward into their senior years.

Holiday Support for Mental Health

While the holidays is a time to relax, spend time with family and friends and feel refreshed for another term, some students may find it challenging to be away from their daily routine and their social connections.  Please see the attached brochure from our incredible Senior School Counsellors for parental guidance in supporting your teenagers during this upcoming break.

Yr 10 Video

As mentioned last week in Note Day by Mrs Van de Peer, Ms Boase and I challenged Yr 10 to step up and express what they believed the Yr 10 cohort needed to hear and experience at this time in the term.  A few students chose to create a video to provide inspiration and focus for Yr 10 as they prepare to enter the senior years of school. Students were extremely engaged in the creation of this video and we would love you to see the advice they collected and shared with their peers here.

Parental Support and Resources

  • Parental Access to Digital Safety Resources

In the new Pulse 2.0, parents can find the Digital Safety option in Quick Links.  The School TV and cybersecurity resources are linked through this option.  From the landing page, parents can choose School TV Home to then navigate by topic in the search bar.  Several resources for parents are at your fingertips, including the resources on parties and gatherings shared in last week’s Note Day.

This webinar by Paul Dillon is for parents and guardians of teenagers who are looking for strategies to help keep their child safe at parties.

Teenage parties provide young people with valuable opportunities to develop a range of social skills that they need to relate effectively with their peers. As they get older, alcohol is more likely to become a part of these social gatherings and, unfortunately, things can go wrong.

This presentation will examine what we know about young people, alcohol, and its use at parties. It will also provide practical strategies and simple tips for parents considering allowing their teen to attend such events, to help ensure they are as safe as possible.

Drug education expert Paul Dillon presented a seminar for Independent school parents in 2017 on teens and alcohol. Here he confronts the fact that parents have to be prepared for their child to sometimes do the wrong thing.

Student Achievements

Congratulations to Jasmine Black! Jasmine has been selected to play with NSW in the girls’ football National Youth  Championships in Coffs Harbour this week Monday – Friday. The National Youth Championships, run by Football Australia, represents the highest level of competition for our State teams. It provides a pathway and opportunity for NSW players to become identified for any of the A-League clubs and the various National Youth teams.  Best of luck to Jasmine.

Congratulations to Isaac Brooks and Henry Charles who were invited to complete Tuesday 20 September in the NSWCIS Athletics Championships as part of the ISA Team.  Well done to both competitors!
