iGrow Data Platform

This week, Yr 10 were introduced to our iGrow Data Platform which has been developed by Redlands to holistically track and nurture the academic growth and wellbeing of each student. This week, Yr 10 students were introduced to the process of iGrow conversations and will begin discussing their individual data with their Tutors, Year Advisors or the Dean of Studies 7-10, to identify areas of strength and to strategically plan for Semester 1. This will assist Yr 10 with making positive holistic choices as they prepare for their senior years of study.

International Women’s Day

On Tuesday, the school celebrated International Women’s Day. The global theme for International Women’s Day in 2022 is Changing Climates: Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow’. This year’s theme is all about recognising and amplifying the important role women and girls around the world play in addressing climate change. Gendered norms and ideas of what a woman’s role should be in society often mean that women and girls experience the impacts of climate change and natural disasters differently. Yet in spite of this, their voices are frequently side-lined when it comes to developing solutions to the climate crisis – with 67% of all climate-related decision-making roles currently held by men.

Our assembly guest speaker, Captain Casey Scully-O’Shea CSC, RAN, provided students with a wonderful insight into her past, current and future aspirations as a female leader within Defence. Please see Ms Gemma Van de Peer’s entry for access to the webinar.

Culture College NSW Cultural Immersion Experience – Yr 10 and 11 19 – 25 April

We are delighted to offer a NSW-based cultural immersion program with our partners at Culture College. This replaces the planned Homeland trip to Northern Territory and means we are able to offer this experience to more students in Years 10 and 11.

Based on Dharug Country near Wiseman’s Ferry, and with the support and involvement of Dharug and Yuin elders and community members, this alternate program will offer similar authentic learning experiences planned for Arnhem Land yet on local country with a local context. These include visiting important Indigenous sites, learning about kinship, connecting to country, dreaming stories, men’s and women’s business and other cultural activities.

The program represents a unique opportunity for our students to immerse themselves in local Aboriginal culture that few people in NSW will experience. It offers not only benefits to our students and community but is a continuing source of employment for Indigenous people in uncertain times.

The dates for this program are from Tuesday 19 April to Monday 25 April inclusive. The total cost of the program is $2,965.

If you wish to take advantage of this unique opportunity, please contact Rachael Riley, rriley@redlands.nsw.edu.au, for a Booking Form and further details.

Twilight in the Garden

On Friday 1 April, from 6-8pm, Redlands will host Twilight in the Garden as a chance for parents to informally connect with one another and with the Year Advisors of their children. This year, it will take place in the Fahl Garden on the Senior Campus.

Clean Up Australia Day

Thank you to all students and families who contributed this year to Clean Up Australia Day event at Balmoral Beach.  Rain or shine, the students came out to support.  Pictured below: Heidi Colleran, Caitlin Preece, Winter Penney and Conor Petersen.

SRC

Students in the SRC were at a leadership conference last week where they were able to meet and be inspired by Ronni Kahn, CEO and Founder of OzHarvest.  The time spent together led to several ideas emerging and Yr 10 SRC representatives were already beginning to look into proposed student initiatives this week.  Students involved:

  • Will Howard – Cowper
  • Conor Peterson – Dumolo
  • Jack Keogh – McDouall
  • Ruby Voyce – Roseby

Acknowledgements and Congratulations

Congratulations to the ISA Swimming Champions this week: Hamish Campbell, Grace Durrant, Xander Halfen, Rafferty Heard, Chloe Jennings, Julius Keller and Ruby Voyce.

Well done to all rowers last weekend at the Regatta in Canberra.  Students came back tired and so proud of their achievements.  Please see Sports page full details.
