Student Accomplishments

Yr 10 were very active over the summer.  Please join me in congratulating the following students for their incredible achievements in recent months.

Congratulations to Isaac Brooks and Jaiden Confessore for their results in the NSW All Schools that took place 9 – 12th of December at SOPAC.

Isaac Brooks achieved 4th place in the 15 years 800m final. He earned a Personal Best and Qualifications for the Australian Junior Athletics Championships. Isaac also achieved 5th place in the 15 years 1500m final where he also earned a Personal Best.  Well done Isaac!

Jaiden Confessore achieved 36th place in the 15 years 200m and 46th place 100m. Congratulations, Jaiden!

Daisy Thomas is wished all the best this term as she travels with Snow Australia to compete in the Europa Cup and the Junior World Championships in Switzerland. Congratulations to Daisy for this huge recognition of all her hard word and love for the sport! We look forward to hearing about her experience while abroad and receiving updates over these next few months. Good luck, Daisy!

Grace Durrant is congratulated for her incredible performance in the Surfing State Championships at the end of last year. Grace made it through to quarter-finals and enjoyed the competition and experience once again. Well done, Grace!

Careers Profiling

This Friday, Yr 10 will be engaging in Careers Profiling.  The results will give students feedback on what possible future careers to explore based on their strengths, personality, character and more. This is the first of many interactions and sessions with the Redlands University and Careers Advisors Mrs Justine Fowler and Ms Clare Hurst. Further information regarding this process was sent to parents at the end of Yr 9.

Yr 10 Pastoral Care

The theme this year for Pastoral Care is ” Creating Communities through Personal Growth.”  Our connection to communities throughout the year will be centred around homelessness. Students will gain a broader sense of self as they participate in Careers Profiling, Career Interviews, Industry Day, Class Selection Interviews, Business Week and resume writing workshops. Students will continue to learn and develop their self-management skills, incorporating study skills and goal setting. In Pastoral Care lessons, students will cover content focused on norms and equality centred around relationships. Later in the year, students will cover the topics of Media Literacy and Sexuality as well as Decision Making, Communication, Refusal and Negotiation Skills as skills for health and wellbeing.

Communication

A reminder that subject related questions should be directed to your child’s teacher or relevant Subject Coordinator. If you are unable to find the necessary contacts, please contact your child’s Tutor who will be able to assist. Tutor contact information and other important Yr 10 information can be found in Redlands Pulse.

Uniform

Yr 10 are required to wear the Summer School Uniform Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and Sports Uniform on Thursday.  If students have Sport on Tuesdays or PE on another day of the week, students may also wear their Sport Uniform on these days.

New Year, New Class

The first few days of a new year can be tricky and, often, not just for students. Dr Judith Locke’s article, Help them process their first day of school’, offers some valuable, considered and balanced advice on how to navigate this sometimes delicate time of year.

Flexischools – Canteen Ordering System.

If students would like to purchase a hot or pre-prepared meal for Recess or Lunch, they will have to use the online purchasing system, Flexischools. While there will still be some snacks available for students to purchase in person at Recess and Lunch, the majority of meals will only be available for students to pre-order via Flexischools.

Online Learning Resources

Learning resources will be provided to all Yr 10 students at school and those who are isolating at home via iLearn. Yr 10 students should be independent with following up on their own work and email their teachers if they  need to clarify any of the class work provided. There will not be zoom lessons for any student isolating at home.

Hygiene

Students must use the hand sanitising stations when arriving on campus and when entering classrooms.

Cocurricular Activities

With the current COVID measures in place, it is our aim that as many cocurricular activities as possible will resume from the start of the year. We are undertaking individual risk assessments for each activity to determine whether or not they can run and if so, the risk mitigation strategies required, to run them as safely as possible

Medical Appointments

Outside of Covid 19 protocols, if you do need to organise a medical appointment, please try and organise this outside of school. Attendance is very important in Yr 10 and students need to minimise the amount of time they are taking off from school.
