BurnBright – Altitude – Exploring Foundations.

Coming up on Friday 19 November in Week 7, Yr 10 will be participating in a full-day program ‘Altitude – Exploring Foundations’ on campus at Redlands lead by the team at BurnBright.

Burn Bright’s Altitude wellbeing program explores the concept that as Yr 10 approach the great heights of their high school journey and look ahead, it’s crucial that they explore the foundations of their character as this is what guides us, not only in our triumphs but also in times of challenge. Throughout the program Yr 10 will delve into the cornerstone skills and reflections needed for oneself to achieve long-term personal success. BurnBright believes in a foundation of healthy strong relationships, and exploring intentional relationships attribute to one’s journey in and out of school. Burn Bright believes success is cultivated from a strong support network, but more so, a true understanding of one’s character.

The Altitude program encourages this practice through exploring daily practices, continued self-reflection, and conversation around how Yr 10 students can be the best version of who they are, for themselves and others.

Other confirmed events coming up later in the term include:

  • Peer Support training day – November 8th (Week 6)
  • Peer Support Assistance at Year 7 Orientation Day (Week 7)
  • Exploration Week ( Monday 29th, Tuesday 30th (Week 9)

Return to On-Campus Learning – Monday 25 October

As much as Yr 10 are excited to return to On-Campus Learning next week, COVID-19 has required everyone to make changes: how we live, how we socialise, how we learn. This has impacted our day to day routines so it is important that on our return to campus next week, students consider that the adjustment back to the normal routine of school life may be difficult and for others, it may be easier to jump straight back into the school environment.

Below are a few key points from the NSW Department of Education which has put together some tips, hints and links to help our parents and carers navigate students’ return to On-Campus Learning after lockdown.

Getting Ready

  • Be realistic and flexible. Talk with your teachers about your work, both the strengths and the challenges. Your teachers are there to help you.
  • Be kind to yourself. Give yourself the same advice that you’d give to a good friend.
  • Life has been quite different, so give yourself time to adjust back into routine. Be realistic in your thinking about how long it might take.
  • Encourage students to set alarms, multiple alarms if need be to ensure they are up on time, particularly if they are catching public transport to school.
  • Get organised before the day. Try on your school uniform and shoes before the first day back. You may have had a growth spurt and need to organise getting new gear!
  • Check your timetable to know what lessons you’ll be having and prepare the equipment you might need. If you’re unsure ask your teacher or someone in your class. Pack your school bag the day before, including a face mask and hand sanitiser. If you don’t have hand sanitiser or a mask don’t stress, your school can give this to you.
  • Try to reconnect with a friend before the first day back and arrange a time and place to meet on your return.
  • Some things are out of our control and it can be tiring worrying about these things. Try and focus on the things you can control, like trying your best with your school work, and see change as an opportunity to learn and grow.
  • Talk with your family and friends to help you prepare yourself for returning to school.
