Hockey

A big thank you to the Friends of Hockey for their efforts in the End of Season Hockey Presentation. It was a fantastic night for the Hockey community to celebrate the great achievements of all of our Hockey students this year. It was fantastic to see such a great turnout including students, parents and family members. A big thank you to Sophie McMillan, Iris Buisman, Victoria Butler and Jessica Travers-Wolf, our student MCs team for the night; and to Eloise Truman for testing the Hockey knowledge of our community with some Hockey trivia.

Netball

Rugby

With the season done and dusted we can now look ahead to not only the 2023 ISA Rugby Season and the preseason preparation, but also, and more importantly, our 2022 End of Season Presentation.

Having not been able to hold this event for the past two years, I could not be more excited to celebrate the wonderful accomplishments within this program and the successes of the students involved. Further details will come shortly but I can assure all of our Redlands Rugby community that we will have some brilliant surprise guests attending the event as well.

With Summer Sport Trials starting across the past week, I understand that the last thing on many of our students minds is the 2023 ISA Season but, with dramatic changes to the number of games as well as the competition we will face, preparation leading into the season is key. For the remainder of the Term and into Term 4, the Wednesday morning Fitness Session (6:30am–7:40am) will offer workouts prepared, specific to Rugby Union and building up our strength, power and speed. It would be ideal to see as many of our Rugby athletes attend these sessions, especially all students who are wishing to trial for the 1st XV. Max Perry, along with Rory McMillan, are already training the house down across multiple sessions across the week.

And lastly, this week we farewelled Austin Durrant, who leaves for the UK. Few words can describe the impact this player has had in his short time at Redlands and I could not be more excited for the opportunities ahead of him as he moves to Exeter. Having spoken with a number of the Chiefs Academy coaches and staff, they are well aware of the talent that will be on their shores shortly. Austin was presented a signed 1st XV Jersey with the 22 symbolising not only the incredible undefeated season of the 2022 Under 13s but also for the potential he displayed as a player within this program. Well done Austin and good luck.

Basketball

It has been great to see our Basketball players back in action in preparation for the 2022/23 ISA Season. A reminder that the most up-to-date Basketball information is available on the Redlands Pulse – Basketball Page. There will be a Friends of Basketball meeting on Monday 5 September in room L1.3 at 6pm. If you are interested in attending the meeting or being a member of the Friends of Basketball committee please email kseebohm@redlands.nsw.edu.au.

Athletics

It was great to have so many students brave the conditions on Saturday at the Invitational Carnival last week, this week again sees the carnival at ES Marks Athletics Track with the start time of 8:40am (for the 3km) and 9:00am for all field events.

Redlands Pulse – Athletics has the up-to-date program.

2022 NSW All Schools Athletics Championships

We encourage all Redlands Athletes to enter the 2022 NSW All Schools Athletics Championships scheduled to take place 24–27 September. Entries need to be completed by the individual competitor (not the school) and there are no qualification time/distance needed making it a great opportunity for competition practice. Entries close on Friday 9 September.

Date:      Saturday 24 September – Tuesday 27 September

Venue:   Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre (SOPAC)

Registration and Further Information:   https://www.nswathletics.org.au/events/144824/

Fitness Centre

From next Friday 2 September, the Friday Morning Fitness Session will be an All-Girls Session. This will continue for the following fortnight across 9 and 16 September as we lead into the Term 3 Holidays and Summer Sport Trials and Team Selections.

The Fitness Centre is an incredible space, freely used by all Redlands Athletes across all Age-Groups. Currently, with fantastic numbers across all sessions, this All Girls Session will allow for a session tailored towards our female athletes and their chosen Summer Sports.

I encourage all students wishing to attend to bring along a friend or teammate for the session.

Session starts at 6:30am sharp and will conclude by no later than 7:40am.

Students are reminded to bring with them the following.

  • A water bottle
  • Towel
  • Redlands PE / Sports Uniform

Sports and students are asked to contact the Director of Athletic Development Mr Jack Gooding jgooding@redlands.nsw.edu.au for any specific questions regarding these sessions.

General Sport Information

Wet Weather

If training is cancelled due to wet weather, a notification will be posted on the Redlands Sport Twitter page (@RedlandsSport) in addition, an email will be sent out to both students and parents. This includes morning & afternoon training along with weekend fixtures.

Thursday afternoon sport – wet weather arrangements (Year 8-12)
In order to limit student mixing indoors, Students in Year 8-12 who are dismissed at the end of Period 5 are required to go directly home. Sport coaches and Redlands staff will supervise their COVID-safe departure.

Thursday afternoon sport – wet weather arrangements (Year 7)
In the event that year 7 sport is cancelled on Thursday afternoon, students will remain at school until 3.20pm and participate in sport based activities.

Fixtures

A friendly reminder that the weekly Fixtures (the Redlands Rhino) can be found on the Secondary School Sport page on Redlands Pulse from Wednesday each week. Please ensure you check this on Friday each week to ensure you have the most up to date fixture information.

Uniform

The Redlands sports uniform should be worn to all trainings and matches (students are not permitted to wear any non-Redlands branded clothing). In the event of inclement weather students should wear their Redlands fleece or sports tracksuit.

Game time and arrival times

Students should arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of their scheduled fixture on Saturday (unless directed otherwise). Please ensure you know where you are playing and the likelihood of traffic on Saturday mornings to allow adequate time.

Attendance at Sport

Can we please draw your attention to the following communication process regarding absence from Sport:

  1. Parents are required to send an email to the appropriate Sports Administrator prior to missing any training session asking for them to be excused
  2. Any student unable to attend a Saturday fixture due to illness, is required to submit a Medical Certificate to their Sports Administrator by the Monday morning following the missed fixture
  3. Injured students are required to attend all training sessions and Saturday fixtures
  4. Failure to do any of the above will jeopardise a student’s eligibility for Colours, Pockets, and Awards & result in school disciplinary action

Please note that the first unexplained absence will result in a lunchtime detention with further unexplained absences escalating to a Friday afternoon Detention. Please refer to the Student Planner 2022 for full details on requirements for participating in a Representative Sport.
