Secondary Sport
We are incredibly excited to be able to launch the Redlands Sport Program for 2022 this week. Seeing the courts, fields and rowing sheds in full swing has been a wonderful sight after the summer holidays.
Please read the following information carefully to ensure you are familiar with arrangements that have been put in place for sport over the coming weeks:
Participation and Exemption
- If there is a reason why your child is unable to participate in their scheduled Sports training or Fixtures during Week 2, please directly email Alison Cox, Head of Secondary School Sport acox@redlands.nsw.edu.au by 3.00pm on Monday 7 February.
Summer Season
- All Sport training will be based on your child’s Summer Sport choice. Updated communication will be shared each week in the Secondary School Sport section of Note Day.
Mask-wearing
- Mask-wearing is required when traveling between sports venues and on school grounds (this includes students walking or traveling by bus to or from school).
- Secondary School students must wear masks in indoor sports venues at all times when not exercising, including in change room and bathroom facilities.
Change-Rooms and Uniform
- In order to minimise large groups of students mixing in changing rooms, students have permission to wear their PE uniform to school on days they have Sport training.
Representative Sport
- Students whose Representative Sport training session is not scheduled on Thursday afternoon will be dismissed from school at 2.30pm.
- The ISA Board have determined that the ISA Summer Sport Competition will commence on Saturday 12 February, 2022.
- Sailing will commence their Saturday Sport program this Saturday (5 February) and all remaining Representative Sport will commence on Saturday 12 February and this will continue until Saturday 12 March. Once again, specific detail will be communicated by the relevant Sport Administrator.
- If your child is unable to attend any of their scheduled sessions, please contact the appropriate Sports Administrator (contact details listed below).
- Sport Specific information is also available to families on the Secondary School Sports Page on Redlands Pulse.

THURSDAY AFTERNOON SPORT – WET WEATHER ARRANGEMENTS (YEAR 8-12)
In order to limit student mixing indoors, Students in Yr 8-12 who are dismissed at the end of Period 5 are required to go directly home. Sport coaches and Redlands staff will supervise their COVID-safe departure.
THURSDAY AFTERNOON SPORT – WET WEATHER ARRANGEMENTS (YEAR 7)
In the event that Yr 7 sport is cancelled on Thursday afternoon, students will remain at school until 3.10pm and participate in cohort based activities.
THURSDAY AFTERNOON – EARLY DEPARTURE (Year 8-12)

Sailing
The Squadron would like to welcome back the Redlands sailors to their third and final term of sailing for the 2021-22 season. This term we have 35 sailors who will train in a range of boats including the Optimist dingy, Pacer dingy and Elliott keelboat. Our sailors are currently preparing for the Canberra Teams Racing Championships, which take place at the end of this month. Up to 20 teams from schools and universities across NSW and the ACT will compete in the championship.
Tennis
It was wonderful to see students back out on the Tennis court this week. The training schedule is available on Redlands Pulse. Students are now training in their allocated training groups during the week. Saturday fixtures for students in Yr 8-12 will commence on Saturday 12th Feburaury. If a student is unable to attend their scheduled training session for any reason, please email Alison Cox.
Rowing
During the summer holidays many of our Rowing students made the most of the optional training sessions available for them to opt into with both on water and gym sessions in the fitness centre getting high student attendance. These sessions meant that students would be able to not only maintain a level of fitness and physical resilience leading into Term 1 but they were able to also continue their skill development.
Our Yr 10-12 rowers along with our Yr 8-9 rowers concluded their holidays with a training camp held on Middle Harbour from our boatshed at Mosman Rowing Club where students would row on water two to three times per day. These camps are a major training block for the program where we are able to select crews that will race at the initial regattas in Term 1 and these new combinations have time to settle and refine as they prepare for the significant regattas to come.
Some of our Senior Students attended the NSW Small Boat Regatta on Sat 29th Jan where they were able to race in either single or double sculls. Considering our lack of race experience so far this season, we were delighted with the results. This included Harley van der Pluijm (Yr 11) finishing 8th in the A Final of the Men’s Under 19 scull while Pat Walker (Y r11), Billy Thomas (Yr12) and Oliver Rose (Yr 12) finished in 1st, 4th and 5th place of the B Final. Meanwhile in the Women’s U19 Scull, Cat Croll (Yr 11), Georgia Verschoor (Yr 11) and Elizabeth Holtheuer (Yr 12) finished 8th, 6th and 3rd in the A final. Elizabeth and Georgia combined to win the Women’s Under 19 Double Scull.
This weekend our girls will be attending their first regatta as a whole squad at the Roseville College Regatta held at Iron Cove on Sat 5th Feb. Usually by now our Yr 8 and 9 students would have already attended two to three regattas and had multiple races at each, so as you might imagine there is some excitement about our first formal regatta for these students. Our boys will be based at Mosman Rowing Club and will be competing internally in preparation for their first regattas next weekend.
Non-Representative Sport
Fitness Centre
With Sport well and truly back up and running, the Redlands Fitness Centre will again be open for students across Term 1. All students can access the morning sessions which run Monday – Friday and start promptly at 6:30am.
Students are reminded to bring with them the following.
- A water bottle
- Towel
- Redlands PE / Sports Uniform
There will also be additionally High-Performance Sessions across all afternoons. These will be specific to our Summer Rep. Sports and students are asked to contact the Director of Athletic Development Mr Jack Gooding jgooding@redlands.nsw.edu.au for any specific questions regarding these sessions.
The gym and all equipment will be wiped down in between each session and a thorough clean is undertaken at the end of each day.
