Netball

It was great to see a number of players wearing a splash of Pink in support of our Charity Round across the weekend, and despite not having too many home games, the support across the program was great to see! We have some mixed results across the board over the weekend, the Snr 2 game had a very close game against Barker which has reignited their season, the Inter A team coming away with a much needed win against Chevalier College, whilst the Inter B team also had a strong win both still in the hunt for finals. The Inter C team unfortunately went down to Barker College. The Junior A team had a tough loss against Chevalier College, with the Junior B team having a very exciting win against Barker College to keep their finals hopes alive! The Jnr C team had a very exciting Draw against St Andrews, which leaves them still in the hunt for finals.

The Redlands Netball Presentation dinner will be held Thursday 15 September at Dee Why RSL Club, starting at 6:30pm, tickets can be purchased through the Netball Presentation Dinner.

Football

Despite the closure of Macquarie University Fields, the Redlands Football program still made the most of their pink socks in support of Breast Cancer awareness. The 1st Boys Football team travelled to St Patrick’s who were kindly able to host the game with the field closures at Macquarie. The team was undermanned but didn’t back down and finished leading the first half up 1-0. The game evened out in the second half with St Pat’s scoring a goal of their own, finishing with a 1-1 draw. A fantastic result for the Redlands 1st Boys against the top of the table team as they continue to play for a spot in the semi-finals. The 1st Girls game was rescheduled to Oakhill College and despite the muddy grounds, the Redlands Girls made the best of the conditions, playing a great game to finish with a 4-0 win. With no games going ahead at Macquarie University, all other teams made their way to the Junior Campus Oval for some internal matches. The students made the most of the synthetic pitch in the wet weather in what turned out to be a fantastic day for our Football students. A big thank you to the Football coaches for their help in making it a great morning!

The End of Season Presentation Dinner will be going ahead on Tuesday 6 September and it’s now the time to secure your tickets! Please follow the link below to purchase your tickets for the event:

Hockey

Our 1st and 2nd Girls Hockey teams played against Barker in Round 8 of the ISA competition. The 1st Girls put up a strong fight against the top of the table Barker 1st Girls, finishing with a 4-1 loss against a very strong Barker side. The 2nd Girls showed some great improvements, finishing the game with a 0-0 draw which was a massive improvement from the first time these two teams met earlier in the season.

Best of luck to both our 1st and 2nd Girls as they travel to Central Coast this weekend in two important games, with both teams looking to secure a spot in the upcoming semi-finals. The bus to the Central Coast will be leaving at 8.30am on Saturday from Military Rd, a reminder to parents to complete the online permissions on the engage portal ahead of the game this weekend. All students will be required to bring a mask to wear on the bus to/from the game.

We can’t wait to celebrate the season with our Hockey families on Thursday 25 August at Balgowlah Bowling Club. Please follow the link below to secure your tickets for the dinner. All members of the family are welcome to attend and celebrate the 2022 Redlands Hockey Season!

Cross Country & Athletics Training

It was great to see so many students attend last Fridays training session, despite the wet weather we were able to utilise the Junior Campus Oval for some sprint and technique work. This week we are hoping to return to Balmoral Oval, with the bus departing from Redlands Lane at 3:30pm, the bus should return approximately 5:30pm (leaving Balmoral at the completion of training at 5:00pm)

We will also be offering High Jump training in Lang Gym on Friday mornings from 7:00am – 8:00am.

AFL

We are looking forward to returning to Round 9 of AFL this weekend. Details around this weekend’s fixtures can be found on Redlands Rhino. Good luck to all our teams!

Tennis

Despite the wet weather cancelling our Saturday matches last week, we are looking forward to competing in the last few rounds of fixtures before Finals Week (13 August).

Following our Tennis meeting, please remember attendance to training and Saturday matches are compulsory unless otherwise explained prior to the day. Also, there are new training groups and team changes so please make sure you are attending the correct times and days.

A reminder for Round 9 (30 July) this weekend:

  • Please submit your team roster to the Google form before Wednesday 12pm
  • If you are unable to attend Saturday’s competition, please email Caitlin Wong by no later than 12pm on Friday. Attendance is mandatory otherwise and particularly important for ISA players as this competition has very strict guidelines.
  • Please check the draw and playing pairs list to see when/where/who you are playing this weekend

Rugby

Despite the disappointment of another weekend postponed due to rain it was incredible to see over 38 students brave the weather for our Saturday morning training last weekend. The level of development across this group has been brilliant to watch and it is a credit to the efforts put in by our students. It was also encouraging to see how many of our students went out to Shute Shield matches in the afternoon. Whether it be the Battle of the Beaches or braving the conditions at TG Milner, this pathway into post school rugby should be a target for all of our students, especially our High Performance group leading into 2023. On that, there will be a number of our students attending the preseason development camp for Sydney Uni, a brilliant opportunity to see the skill and development level for that next step up.

For this weekend, it is the old foe in Oxley College. Always a fantastic away weekend, we will be able to have matches for every Age-Group in our program and I encourage as many of you as possible to make the trip down to support our boys. The Friends of Rugby, led by Sue Sellar will be hosting a small get together for all students and parents within the Rugby Program on the Friday Night. This is an opportunity for our greater community to get together, away from the program, and socialise on their own terms. For further details, please either email Sue on jssellar@gmail.com or Karen Nicholson on nicholson18karen@gmail.com.

We are into the tail end of our season and we must look forward to what 2023 will bring. I cannot wait to see the lasting legacy our Year 12 group, led by our Rugby Captain Hugh Sellar, can leave in that 1st XV Jersey over the remaining games.

Basketball

Redlands 3×3 Basketball will continue on Monday afternoons this term. Please see the details below:

Start date: Monday 1 August

Fitness Centre

With the start of Term 3, we now begin to see the transition between our Winter Rep. Sports and our Summer Season. This period is key for our Summer Sports athletes to begin preparing their bodies for the rigors of a full season and the Fitness Centre is a key space to fully utilise. Whether Rowing, Basketball or any of the other options for Summer, students must be physically prepared. The Fitness Centre is available to all students across the Term 3 Period with sessions tailored towards developing speed, fundamental movements and power.

All students can access the morning sessions which run Monday through to Friday starting promptly at 6:30am and finishing by 7:45am. These sessions are for all Age-Groups and all Sports, so every student is encouraged to bring a mate along with them to the sessions.

Students are asked to make sure they sign in with one of the S/C Coaches or Mr Jack Gooding directly upon entering the space.

Students are reminded to bring with them the following.

  • A water bottle
  • Towel
  • Redlands PE / Sports Uniform

Sports and students are asked to contact the Director of Athletic Development Mr Jack Gooding jgooding@redlands.nsw.edu.au for any specific questions regarding these sessions.

Fixtures

A friendly reminder that the weekly Fixtures (The Redlands Rhino) can be found on the Secondary School Sport page on Redlands Pulse from Wednesday each week. Please ensure you check this on Friday each week to ensure you have the most up to date fixture information.

Uniform

The Redlands sports uniform should be worn to all trainings and matches (students are not permitted to wear any non-Redlands branded clothing). In the event of inclement weather students should wear their Redlands fleece or sports tracksuit.

Game time and arrival times

Students should arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of their scheduled fixture on Saturday (unless directed otherwise). Please ensure you know where you are playing and the likelihood of traffic on Saturday mornings to allow adequate time.

Attendance at Sport

Can we please draw your attention to the following communication process regarding absence from sport:

  1. Parents are required to send an email to the appropriate Sports administrator prior to missing any training session asking for them to be excused
  2. Any student unable to attend a Saturday fixture due to illness, is required to submit a Medical Certificate to their Sports administrator by the Monday morning following the missed fixture
  3. Injured students are required to attend all training sessions and Saturday fixtures
  4. Failure to do any of the above will jeopardise a student’s eligibility for Colours, Pockets, and Awards & result in school disciplinary action

Please note that the first unexplained absence will result in a lunchtime detention with further unexplained absences escalating to a Friday afternoon Detention. Please refer to the Student Planner 2022 for full details on requirements for participating in a Representative Sport.
