Jazz in the Garden

Music Department Launch Event

Come join us for an evening of Jazz music as the Friends of Music host our launch event, Jazz in the Garden, on Saturday 9 March at 6.00 pm. As part of this concert, the first-ever Redlands EP of Original Compositions will be released. Enjoy performances from the Junior and Intermediate Jazz Bands, Stage Band and the Jazz Vocal Ensemble, hosted by the 2019 Arts and Music Captains.

Junior and Senior Piano Competition

Auditions Dates Listed on Redlands Pulse

Audition forms can be collected from the Music Offices or downloaded from Redlands Pulse. The audition process will require students to demonstrate advanced technical skills, personal expression and understanding of style. It is expected that students present works demonstrating a high standard of musical competency. Please note only one piece is required for the audition with the second contrasting piece listed on the application form.

Musicianship Lessons

Redlands students are able to participate in Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) Musicianship lessons on either the Junior Campus or Senior Campus. Classes for Junior School students are on Tuesday (7.30-8.15am) and Secondary School students on Tuesday and Thursday (7.30-8.15am). We encourage all students interested in pursuing theoretical examinations to commence these lessons with our Music Theory tutors. Please contact juniormusic@redlands.nsw.edu.au if you are interested in joining these classes.

Music Community Working Bee

The Friends of Music Committee would like to invite members of the school community to a Working Bee on Saturday 6 April (9.00am-1.00pm), assisting the Music Department as they prepare scores for relocation into the new Music Library storage units. The focus of this community morning is to assist with the sorting, organising, cataloguing and shelving of all Music Ensemble scores and ongoing data entry in updating our Music Library spreadsheets.

Morning tea and refreshments will be provided at approximately 11.00am and this event will also be a wonderful time for parents to meet the 2019 Friends of Music Committee. If you would like to join us for the full four hours or even part thereof, please RSVP the Friends of Music President Mrs Emma McLaren.

Senior Cocurricular Photographs

Photos for all Secondary Cocurricular Music Ensembles will be held on Wednesday 13 March (Week 7) and Wednesday 20 March (Week 8). All instrumentalists are required to have their instrument for photos on this day. Please refer to the photo schedule outlined below.

Secondary Cocurricular Music Ensemble Program

Semester 1 enrolments are now closed with rehearsals well underway in learning new repertoire for the Senior Music Festival and Semester 1 Events. Enrolments for joining the Music Ensembles program in Semester 2 is now open to all students. Rehearsal arrangements will be notified to wait-listed students at the end of Term 2.

Instrumental Extension Opportunity

Junior Chamber Music Ensemble Auditions

Redlands Music Department invites students to audition for selection in the Junior Chamber Ensembles Extension program. Forms are to be submitted to the Junior Music Office. Instrumental positions are available for Strings (Violin and Cello), Traditional Woodwind instruments (Flute and Clarinet) and pianists who demonstrate the following skills:

• Grade 2 AMEB or above
• Currently a member of a Redlands Cocurricular Music Ensemble
• Superior Ensemble skills
• Excellent sight-reading skills

Auditions were held throughout this week and selected finalists will be announced in Week 7.

Instrument Insurance

School hired instruments must be included on personal home and contents insurance as Redlands cannot be held responsible for instruments which are lost, stolen or damaged. As all instruments are very fragile, we ask for your assistance in ensuring that students do not let other children play with their instrument, instruments are kept in a safe place and out of extreme temperatures (ie. hot car) and are not left out of their case when not in use.
