Music
Welcome to Music 2023
Music is resounding as our classes resume and our Senior Chamber Ensemble rehearses for tomorrow’s Principal Commissioning. Next week, Private Lessons, Musicianship Lessons and Rock Bands fire up; and Week 3 sees all our Prep, Junior & Senior Ensembles kick off for the year, with enrolments already at a record high. A magnificent year is ahead in Music!
A new year is always a great chance to consider what we hope the year ahead will hold, and position ourselves accordingly.
If not enrolled already, we hope that you might consider which Extracurricular & Cocurricular Music activities could enrich your child’s life in 2023. Many of our participants report our programs as the highlight of their school week – affording social connectedness, rich reward for self-discipline, and immeasurable neurological benefits that enhance both academic and wellbeing outcomes.
We look forward to welcoming your child within our Curricular, Extracurricular & Cocurricular offerings.
Let’s make some music!

Director of Music P-12

Staff Movement
‘You say goodbye, and I say hello’ Beatles
This year we are excited to welcome the following staff members to our team of world class Music specialists. Mr Stefano Caroleo (Orchestral Percussion) and Dr Karina Avanesian-Leonas (Piano) as well as Dr Jeremy Eskenazi in a newly created role as our Resident Associate Artist (Piano). All three have had extremely successful international careers and bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to their roles at Redlands. We are looking forward to our partnership in support of our Redlands learners as they join our team of specialists.
Sadly, we also farewell Ms Annette Houghton as she seeks a tree-change after 27 years of dedicated piano instruction with us. Ms Sandy Sin & Ms Elina Yasumoto are similarly moving on from Redlands for family reasons. We wish them every success in their next chapter.

Communication in 2023
Have you downloaded The Redlands App?
In addition to Pulse News alerts, Note Day remains the weekly voice of our Music Department (as we seek to minimise the number of emails in your inbox!). Create a ritual – make a cup of tea and sit down to read the digest each week – and you’ll be happily across all the happenings in our busy department!
The Redlands App will also move to a more central role in communicating Private Lessons and Rehearsal Session times this year.
When all else fails, our Music Administrators are on hand to assist you with any questions that arise.
Be our Friend?
We deeply value the school and home partnership, and know our students benefit so richly when we work together. We are grateful for the enthusiastic support of our Friends of Music who give their time because of their belief in the importance of creativity, community and collaboration. We extend the invitation to all Prep, Junior & Senior School parents to consider becoming one of our Friends of Music (FOM) in 2023! To find out more, feel free to email our 2023 President (Lisa Connors) at redlandsfriendsofmusic@gmail.com or leave your details via the Friends of Music Expression of Interest form.
We are beyond excited for another year of music making, and we can’t wait to see our community at our many events this year.
Wishing you every good thing for your 2023.
