IPSHA Round 1 Summer Sport Wrap Up

In a very wet weekend, we were only able go ahead with eight fixtures, all Basketball. We had the top six Senior teams play Newington College at home and came away with six from six wins. Our other two fixtures were the 3 and 4C and 3 and 4D teams who played Kings School at Lang Gym and also had two from two wins. Congratulations to the students in these teams, well done on the result but also the sportsmanship that I saw. Let’s continue to set the example for other teams in our competition, seek out the opposition team at the conclusion of the game (including those players injured and or on the bench) to shake hands, three cheers for the referee, thank your coach.

Junior School Swimming Program

Having only being at Redlands for two weeks one of my first goals was to get around to as many venues as possible to see how each sport operates and see if it is an enjoyable and memorable experience for our students. On Friday I managed to get to Lane Cove Aquatic Centre to see what our Swimming program is like. Currently we have all students from Yrs 3 through to 6 involved in this for three weeks which is run by Blue Fit Swim School. This company also runs our Non-Rep Swimming each Wednesday. It was great to see the students in Yr 6 enthusiastically taking part in their lessons on Friday, and equally so the enthusiasm and positivity shown by the swim coaches. The groups were small, the drills well explained, the students were kept moving and focused. Well done to all students on their efforts in this program.

Winter Sport Nominations

This link (Winter Sport Nomination) was sent to all families on Monday for submitting your child’s preferences for their Winter Sport. There are a variety of options available to all students in Representative sport or non-Representative sport.

This process of Winter Sport selection via Google Forms will replace the previous method which was completed through Try Booking.

For more information relating to each sport, please refer to Redlands Pulse. Please note that some sports may not go ahead if adequate numbers are not achieved. For example, if we only get four Yr 3 boys who sign up for Rugby we will not have enough to proceed so those boys will be contacted to choose another sport.

For Summer Sport I spoke to all the students in the Junior School about the word ‘commitment’ and what it means in Sport and what I hope it means in Sport at Redlands. Realistically you as parents know best as to what your child and your family can actually commit too, not just in sport but in all areas of their school life. Can I ask that you keep this word in your mind as you complete the form especially for those sports that have a Friday night or Saturday morning element to it. The due date is tomorrow.

Historically there has been a clash on Friday evenings between Dance and Netball (NSNA). To cater for girls who want to do both, we have offered Netball as a non-Rep option.

Student Absences

For those students who are representing Redlands in fixtures this Saturday and will miss their game due to illness ort misadventure, parents are required to complete this online absence form. This will allow your responses to be passed on electronically to your child’s coach efficiently and at short notice. The Student Absence link can also be found on Redlands Pulse.
