IPSHA Mixed Basketball
Our Yrs 5 and 6 teams had a great weekend with some strong performances against Barker. Our A team were dominant, sharing the point scoring around across the team and playing an unrelenting brand of defence. Charles Hargrave showed that all his hard work has begun to pay off, his 13 points in the B match led the team to a 12 point win.
Charlotte Humphreys led the C team with a game high of ten points, but the team couldn’t get past the strong Barker B, who prevailed by just two points. Another new basketballer, Lachlan Arici, led his D team to a victory with a swag of points.
Junior basketballers continue to impress. I’ve had the pleasure of guest coaching the A and B teams over recent weeks and have loved their heart and hussle. The B team, giving away height and physicality, played well to stay with the Mosman team. Our A team battled hard for a well deserved draw in a really evenly matched contest. Two composed free throws, to go ahead inside the last minute, were not quite enough as Mosman finished scoring – tying up the match with just seconds left. Exciting stuff.
Girls Basketball
Girls Basketball matches will this week take on a new match format with games being shifted to 4 x 10 minute quarters. The additional breaks add just a few minutes to the overall match time but will give our coaches and teams a greater opportunity to provide coaching feedback and will closer reflect the WNBL.
Our Yr 5 girls are learning some really valuable lessons. Playing in a very strong A grade competition. The girls are well and truly in the matches physically, but need to work on the concentration, focus and intensity right to the end of the match. After leading the whole way in a tight contest, they conceded a turnover and basket with just seconds to go to drop the game by just a point.
Yr 6 Red team, made up of Yrs 5 and 6 girls, showed their improving ability to score last week, bagging 14 points in their season high tally and showed some good signs around aggressive rebounding.
Cricket
The first cricket match on the Redlands Junior Campus Oval was action packed and really entertaining. The slower pitch means bowlers are rewarded for full bowling and batsmen need sound straight back technique. Our boys fielded well, taking plenty of catches and bowling strongly.
Tennis
Callum Zhu and Nathan Lu continue to lead from the front with our Tennis team. Ranked 1 and 2, Callum and Nathan have formed a dynamic duo in doubles and have translated that form into their singles. Leonardo Vaccarezza and Zoe Halliday also impressed with their singles play and helped the Redlands team to a really tight victory, 36 games to 32.
IPSHA Gymnastics
Redlands had four teams compete at IPSHA Gymnastics on Wednesday 31 October. The Women’s Level 1 team had some great performances and finished in 2nd place. Our boys team also finished in a very close 2nd and got some positive coaching and feedback from the very experienced athlete judges. Our Level 2 girls scored highly with all scores above 8.5 for each apparatus placing them 6th against some strong girl’s schools. Ella Sanger-Larsson (Yr 4) competed as an individual in the Level 4 team event and also finished a very worthy 6th. For many of these students it was their first time competing in a gymnastics event, there was a good mix of nerves and excitement which allowed for some fantastic routines. Congratulations!
NSWCIS Athletics
Good luck to our Junior Boys 4 x 100m relay team, Joel Daily, Daniel Benoleil, Jeffrey Benoleil and Ash Corn, who are off to represent NSWCIS at the NSWPSSA Athletics Championships today. The boys have been lightning fast in qualifying for this State Championships and have been refining their baton changes.
Joel has also qualified individually in the 100m and Long Jump.
