HICES Swimming Reps

Our HICES Rep swimmers performed brilliantly at NSWCIS yesterday. Personal bests were the order of the day, with nearly all of our swimmers recording their best ever swims. Luka Gordon and Isobel Campbell showed the future for Redlands Swimming is bright, both making Finals in their respective events, with a number of others only narrowly missing Finals berths.

Basketball

Yrs 3 and 4 basketballers finished the season on a high note with four fantastic matches in Dunnet Hall. In a series of games where defense was king, the low scoring affairs were really evenly matched. Redlands A and D teams recording strong wins. For keen basketballers, our Friday morning training sessions will continue throughout the year. Sadly, our Yr 5 and 6 teams matches were rained out after heavy overnight rain.

Paul Kelly Cup

Four Redlands teams took on schools from the local area in the first Paul Kelly Cup at the redeveloped Gore Hill Oval. The new surface got a big stamp of approval from the kids, who would almost certainly have been rained off on the old field. Both our boys and girls teams had a blast and improved with each match. Our Yr 6 boys and girls narrowly missed Semi Final play on for and against results going against them. Our boys in particular were unlucky, losing to the Grand Final team by just two points after leading early and missing some big opportunities through errant kicking.

Mia Kwintner – Tumbling

Mia Kwintner not only starred as an in and under rover for the Paul Kelly Cup team this week, but showed her talents elsewhere too by recently competing in the NSW Gymnastics State Trial competition and winning the U13s Tumbling division. This result means that she has qualified to be part of the NSW Gymnastics squad where she will compete in May against the country’s top gymnasts.

Redlands Inaugural Sports Luncheon

Don’t forget to book a ticket for Redlands Inaugural Sports Luncheon, an event not to be missed on the Redlands calendar! The Luncheon will provide a great opportunity to celebrate the integral value of sport to the Redlands community and its students of the past, present and future. Sports education enables students to develop skills and behaviours that are essential for their future journey. The list of guests features  a range of Redlands greatest athletes including Karyn Gojnich (Davis), Class of 1978 (Olympic Sailor, Redlander and Redlands mother), Janusz Hooker, Class of 1987 (Olympic Rower), Lachlan Mackay, Class of 2000 (Rugby Wallaby and Brumby) and Holly Crawford, Class of 2001 (Olympic Snowboarder).

HICES Football Trials

Yr 6 students Lachlan Arici, Charles Hargrave, Jasper Houchell, Rory Mantell, George Proctor and Hugo Ward ventured to The Hills Grammar School to take on HICES best footballers. Despite all our boys performing well and having a large presence in the Possibles vs Probables match, none of our boys were selected. It’s tough heading into trials without having had much of a kick or hitout, so the boys did exceptionally well and were fantastic representatives of our Football program, showing great technical skills and understanding and great perseverance.

Winter Sport

Winter sport selections begin on 27 March. Any students uncertain of their winter sports should contact the Sports Office as soon as possible.
