IPSHA Sports

Our final round of IPSHA Basketball, Cricket and Tennis matches are this week. The Yr 5 and 6 A-F teams are being hosted by Sydney Grammar School St Ives (in a rare away fixture this term). The Campus is on the corner of Ayers and Mona Vale Roads, St Ives. I’ll forward a Campus map to all those players. It is an outdoor venue and if there are any changes to the schedule due to weather, you’ll receive an SMS as soon as we hear any news.

Our colour teams have shown some real grit and played some fantastic games. We without a doubt will be entering more teams into the IPSHA competition in Term 4. To finish off on a high note, I’ll move the colour team games this week to Dunnet Hall, Blue to play Red at 11.00am and Green v Gold at 11.30am.

Basketball

Yrs 5 and 6 basketballers continued their winning ways last week with strong wins over Shore. Our Yrs 3 and 4 teams faced a tough test against St Aloysius last weekend and showed great fight. The Yrs 3/4 teams play their final matches this weekend at Dunnet Hall against Grammar, St Ives.

Lachlan Carmichael – CIS AFL

Lachlan Carmichael has set up a stellar Term 2 for a Sports Captain. Lachy was selected to the NSWCIS AFL team following in the footsteps of some great Redlands AFL players. Since 2012 Redlands has had representatives in the NSWCIS AFL team each year. He’ll be playing in a week-long tournament in Sydney South in Term 2 just a week after representing NSWCIS at Basketball in Maitland. Congratulations to a very busy young athlete!

Winter Sport

Thanks to everyone for nominating their Winter sports. Summer sport still continue for a further two weeks. Winter sport selections begin on 27 March.

Netball

Our Yr 4 teams will have a grading evening on 15 March from 4.30-6.30pm, where they’ll play a series of brief modified games to give organisers an idea for grading.

On Wednesday 12 March our newly selected Yr 5A Netball team and our Firsts VII team participated in a Netball training session with Megan Anderson. This session was predominately used as a professional development opportunity for all of our coaches across the Junior and Secondary School, and our Yr 5 and Firsts teams were asked to attend as our player demonstrators.

Megan is currently the Netball Coaching Director at NSNA as well as a former Australian player, former Swifts coach, former Australian Fast 5 coach and is still a specialist coach for the Diamonds.

Megan offered invaluable instructions and knowledge in the fundamental skill aspect of Netball including footwork, basic defence position, attacking drives and passing. Megan tailored her sessions to suit the age group and demonstrate the different coaching methods and techniques used for players of different ages and abilities. Megan imparted this knowledge on to all of our coaches so that they can better assist their team in improving throughout the season. All of our Netball players involved thoroughly enjoyed themselves and learnt a lot from Megan to kickstart their Netball season.

Thank you to all of the Yr 5A players who attended the session to help our coaches, improving their knowledge and coaching methods: Julia Cooper-Hor, Kira Delaney, Milayna Gupta, Chloe Hitchens, Mia Kwintner, Lexi Rowe, Zoe Twining and Ellie Yates and our Firsts, Olivia Donoghue, Maddy Hampton-Vickers, Sarah Kinghorn, Phoebe Rathbone, Allegra Richardson, Taylor Robinson, Lulu Simpson, Emma Sutton and Ashlee Wilks.

Redlands Inaugural Sports Luncheon

Don’t forget to book a ticket for Redlands Inaugural Sports Luncheon, an event not to be missed on the Redlands calendar! The Luncheon will provide a great opportunity to celebrate the integral value of sport to the Redlands community and its students of the past, present and future. Sports education enables students to develop skills and behaviours that are essential for their future journey. The list of guests features  a range of Redlands greatest athletes including Karyn Gojnich (Davis), Class of 1978 (Olympic Sailor, Redlander and Redlands mother), Janusz Hooker, Class of 1987 (Olympic Rower), Lachlan Mackay, Class of 2000 (Rugby Wallaby and Brumby) and Holly Crawford, Class of 2001 (Olympic Snowboarder).

Equestrian

Ruby Holgate from Yr 6 had a blast last week at the NSW Interschools Equestrian Championships. A relatively new competitor, Ruby finished 16th in her class which is admirable, and a great learning experience which will provide her a great launch pad for future competitions.
