JUNIOR SPORT Redlands Pulse
Athletics Carnival
Our annual Junior School Athletics carnival took place at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre in beautiful conditions on Wednesday. In the second of our big three carnivals, there was much excitement leading up to the day from all students despite us having it very early in the sporting calendar. Credit to all students for their enthusiasm and participation both in the stands with war cries and cheering and on the track.
There was some great House spirit being demonstrated throughout the day. The House that stood out in this area was Roseby House led by Charlotte Algar and Charlie Reeves, who sang and cheered their way to some bonus House spirit points including winning the war cry competition judged by Mr Guha and Mr Corcoran just prior to competition.
With the entrant number system students used, in conjunction with the timing gates and photo finish, students were able to see their times and overall rankings on the giant screen after they finished their race. I was also impressed with how students knew their entrant number or had it on their arm as this meant we avoided any issues that would have resulted in races being re-run. This also allowed relay teams to be selected based on the times in the heats. The inclusion of the 50m sprint on the back straight allowed for greater participation and so many students opted in for the 400m event at the end of a long day’s meet. In pre-marshalling, we had our tug of war competition with Cowper winning quite a few of the Age Group competitions.

A big thank you the way all students looked on the day. With our Sports Uniform on point, students had the opportunity to dress it up with head bands, hair ribbons and capes that the House leaders have been making over the last week. Everyone got to wear the House race bibs this year when participating in track events. The ability to identify their peers representing their House from the grandstand really added to the carnival atmosphere. This was evident in our relays held prior to the presentation.
With Cowper winning the carnival for five years in a row, there was a huge reaction when the winning House were announced. Congratulations to Cowper House on their win for 2021 led by Daniel Benoliel and Zoe Potter.

Professional Athletics Photos
We had photographers from Anthony Khoury Photography at the Carnival. The photos will be uploaded shortly and can only be viewed with a code which we will email out to families.
Video Highlights
Throughout the day I was able to get some footage on my phone of the various events on offer. Credit to those students in the Under 11 100m races who avoided kicking my phone down towards the finish line. Looking at the raw footage, there are some great shots and I will produce a highlights video in the coming days and email the link to families.
HICES Football
We were delighted to welcome 21 triallists during the week for the HICES Football trials from Blue Mountains Grammar School, Central Coast Grammar School, Kinross Wolaroi, Pittwater House, Redlands, Scots All Saints College and St Paul’s Grammar School.
The boys were all a credit to their respective schools and, even for the relatively short time here, made some new friendships which was great to see.
Congratulations to our two Redlands students, Sam Elworthy and Bryon Mills, who were part of the 12 boys selected to now go forward to represent HICES at the CIS Football Tournament on Friday 23 April at Valentine Park, Glenwood, Sydney.
