Head of Junior School
Congratulations to our Teachers
Redlands has a long tradition of learning with Harvard’s Project Zero and each semester a number of teachers form teams and participate in 13 weeks of collaborative online learning. This past semester, we have had teams on the Junior Campus complete programs of learning in Visible Thinking and Creating Cultures of Thinking. These professional education courses are research-based and grounded in the day-to-day work of teachers and administrators. Throughout the courses, participants apply what they learn as they learn, receiving personalised feedback from a coach as well as from fellow participants.
The online program brings teachers together from across the globe so there are many opportunities for cross-cultural learning. Congratulations to all of these teachers. We appreciate your commitment to learning.
Junior Piano Competition
It was an absolute joy to attend Monday afternoon’s Junior Piano Competition, held in the stunning venue of the new Edwards Auditorium, part of the School’s new John Roberts Centre on our Senior Campus. This was the first Piano Competition held in this new auditorium and both students and parents enjoyed the professional, yet intimate, setting.
Congratulations are extended to all of the students involved, which showcased another marvellous exhibition of pianists from Yrs 3-6. With acclaimed pianist and musician, Dr Kirill Monosori, as the adjudicator, the students performed with great composure and confidence and all of them should be proud of their performances, as Dr Monosori commented on in his summary.
Well done to all of the students involved and in particular, to the overall competition winner, Leonardo Vaccarezza. Photos can be found in the Music article in this week’s Note Day.

Spanish News
The Education Perfect NSW Language Championships 2019 begin on Tuesday 4 June. The competition begins at 12.00pm and will conclude at 12.00pm seven days later on Tuesday 11 June.
This competition provides students with a wonderful opportunity to compete against other language students in schools across NSW. All students in the Junior School are registered to participate. To compete, all students need to do is answer Spanish language questions on Education Perfect. Points are awarded for all questions, except self-marked questions.
As an added incentive, Education Perfect has provided prizes. The six students in each Year Group with the highest scores in Spanish will be invited to a churros or pizza party. The student with the top score in Spanish in each Year Group will also receive a $20 iTunes voucher.
I encourage all students to participate to improve their Spanish skills and have fun in this exciting and motivating competition. ¡Buena Suerte!
Balmoral Burn
A number of children and families participated once again in the Balmoral Burn taking on the 420m climb up Awaba Road to raise funds for the Humpty Dumpty Foundation. This annual community event has become a popular item on the calendars of many Redlands families and is an excellent opportunity to build fitness and embrace a challenge while having fun.
HICES Cross Country Carnival
Redlands best endurance runners took on 15 other HICES schools at Orange Anglican Grammar School. Our runners performed really well against a tough field and there we some really determined performances. Daniel and Jeffrey Benoleil ran in 2nd and 3rd place in the 10 Boys division, Landon Mansell 5th in 11 Boys and Krishna Gupta 10th in 12 Boys. They have all qualified to represent HICES at the NSWCIS Championships next month. Our team finished in 5th place in 1st Division overall.
