Head of Junior School
Let the Games Commence!
It was with great excitement (for students and staff!) that the newly-turfed Junior Campus oval was opened today for our students to use. This oval is a wonderful space and resource that I know will bring great joy to students from in years to come and on behalf of the students, I acknowledge the project’s support from Dr Lennox and the Redlands School Board of Directors, along with other Redlands staff members who have been involved in the project from start to finish.
As we begin to use it more frequently, we are really looking forward to seeing it be used for PE lessons, Sports training, Junior School Interschool Football matches and before and after school activities. Goals are on order for the large pitch and our Girls’ Football teams will play on the smaller pitches this Saturday morning.
Representative Debating
Last Friday night, all of the Yr 5 representative debaters headed to Kincoppal Rose Bay. Half of them debated for their own team (Primary B) but the other half stepped up in place of the Yr 6 team (Primary A), who had been away at camp all week.
Arguing the negative case on the topic That the book is better than the movie, both teams debated with great assurance and poise to record wins. Congratulations to our Yr 5 debaters: Jacob Cartwright, Henry Dobson, Thomas Hooper, Zoe Kerf, Toby Priestley, Roy Rivera and Freya Stasko in what for many of them, was only their second debate.
As communicated in the Debating information letter from Mrs Sharp at the start of the year, please be reminded of the arrangements for the following dates:
- 26 March – no Debating for all students
- 9 April – no Debating Club; ISDA rep coaching will go ahead
- 30 April – no Debating Club; ISDA rep coaching will go ahead
Bandaged Bear Day
A reminder of tomorrow’s Bandaged Bear Day event on our Junior Campus, a charity that Redlands has an important and special connection with. We look forward to supporting the charity in its 30th year raising money for The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Junior School students will enjoy a teddy bears’ picnic with their buddy class so they are encouraged to bring in a teddy for this occasion. A group of our Year 5 girls who have been part of this fundraiser before are also selling merchandise on the day as listed below so students are encouraged to bring a gold coin donation and extra money should they wish to purchase any items.
Tuesday Cocurricular Clubs
With Learning Review meetings and Yr 5 Camp next Tuesday, Clubs run by teachers will be cancelled next Tuesday 26 March. Teachers have informed their students and students will also be reminded in next Monday’s assembly. They will resume the week after but then not take place in the final week of term as is our practice.
Vacation Care
Ahead of the holiday period, please visit the Flexischools website to book places for your child, should you wish to. Flexischools is the same organisation who run our online lunch orders and uniform purchases so this should be an increasingly familiar system for families to use.
School Musical
Our annual School Musical is a highlight in our Performing Arts calendar and next week around 120 students from Yrs 7-12 will bring Baz Luhrmann’s beloved and award-winning film, Strictly Ballroom, to the stage. Strictly Ballroom – The Musical will run from Thursday 28–Saturday 30 March at The Concourse, Chatswood. Tickets are still available for Thursday and Friday nights from the box office.
Mother’s Day Classic
Interested Redlands families are encouraged to register for the Redlands team on the Mother’s Day Classic website. There are 59 days to go until the big day on Sunday 12 May. This is a wonderful family-oriented event with categories for serious runners through to fun runners of all ages. All proceeds from this event are donated to Breast Cancer Research.
Don’t forget to purchase your Redlands pink caps and a new pink Team Redlands tshirt from the Uniform Shop, with all profits going to the Mother’s Day Classic charity.
To register your interest in joining the Redlands team, please click here. Please note that you will need to complete the registration process, nearly all the way to the payment stage before you can select to join the Redlands team and the password is ‘Shine’.
Thank you to the Redlands Parents and Friends Association who will again have a tent at the event as a meeting point.
