Junior Piano Competition

It was an absolute joy to attend Monday afternoon’s Junior Piano Competition, held in the School’s Music Centre on our Senior Campus. This particular venue provides both students and parents the professional, yet intimate setting with a raised stage and auditorium-style seating. Dr Kirill Monorosi, world accomplished pianist, teacher and lecturer was the adjudicator for the afternoon.

It was wonderful to see students who had begun their piano tuition in Prep School continue on with their lessons in Junior School and be afforded this opportunity to perform in front of an audience. Dr Monosori spoke very highly of both the performance standard and determination of each competitor. All students performed with composure and confidence and they should be proud of their performances. My thanks and appreciation must go to the piano tutors and music staff who so ably prepared the students for what can be a daunting experience for some, and to Mr Darren Kuilenberg who compered the afternoon.

Congratulations to all of the students involved and in particular, to the overall competition winner of the Junior Competition, Leonardo Vaccarezza, whose pieces Waltz in A and Le Petit Negre were played with skill and finesse.

Balmoral Burn

Congratulations to Jack Carey who came third in the K-Yr 2 Division of the Balmoral Burn. Each year families, corporations, children and pets take on the 420m race course up Awaba Street in Mosman, running and walking to raise funds for the Humpty Dumpty Foundation. This important Foundation provides the hospitals and health service centres support with the medical equipment they need. Thank you to the families who took part in this worthy cause.

Student Drop Off

Students are not permitted to be alone on the school grounds before 8.00am.  School begins at 8.20am and between these times when there is a teacher on duty, students are allowed to play on the Piazza or visit the Library for some quiet, reading time. A bell will ring at 8.20am guiding students to wait for their teacher at their meeting place. We understand from time to time your arrival to school is delayed; however, we do ask that you be mindful of continual late arrivals, especially as role modelling good time management skills is a valuable message. If you arrive after 8.20am, please do not go directly to the classroom, rather see the Prep Reception and a member of staff will sign your child in and escort them to their classroom causing the least amount of disruption to the beginning of the day.

Uniform

I would like to remind all Preparatory families of the winter uniform expectations for Term 2. The school blazer is a winter requirement and must be worn to and from school and during Assembly and Chapel. Each classroom has hanger space where students can hang their blazers if they would like to take them off throughout the day. If it is a PE day, then blazers are not required. The Student Planner has more information on correct Uniform Guidelines. Staff will be reminding students of these guidelines via a sticker in their Planner.

Before School in the Lucy Hill Library

The Lucy Hill Library is open for parents and students from 8.00-8.20am on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Wednesdays students must be accompanied by their parent. The Library is a quiet space for reflection and reading and therefore the students who would like to be there are expected to uphold the Positive Behaviour for Learning Agreements.
