Drama and Theatre

Drama and Theatre

We are halfway through the term and already, we have seen some amazing performances and creations from all Drama and Theatre students. Last week I stopped into Year 3 Music Theatre, where they excitedly learnt repertoire from The Lion King. I can already see the makings of passionate Music Theatre performers in the program.

Highlight of the Week: Redlands House

Note: The Wednesday class is full but spots are available on Tuesday.

Creative Kids: Today we learnt how to mirror a mime. We explored emotion and our physicality by walking through different mediums and moving as animals or characters. We worked in pairs and used our bodies to make objects such as a bridge, a tree and a bicycle! And as a class, we created two wonderful stories, The Princess and the Unicorn and The Sad Dragon. What fun!

Highlight of the Week: Preparatory School

Year 1 Acting: In Today’s Year 1 Acting lesson students explored the use of movement to make a freeze-frame. Students worked together to experiment with the use of freeze-frames to create a frozen picture that conveyed a story.

Highlight of the Week: Junior School

Year 5 Acting: This week, the ‘Stakey Nuggs’ (the name for our team as decided by the students) worked on enhancing our listening and quick thinking skills. Each student took turns at doing a ‘rant’  about something they either really liked or really disliked and then swapped. This was followed by the ‘wedding speech’ exercise, where one student makes a speech, and two others prompt them with random words which they have to integrate into the speech. We finished the lesson with ‘one nice thing’ where the students reflected on one thing in the lesson they enjoyed doing/were proud of, and one thing that they enjoyed that another student did.

Highlight of the Week: Secondary School

We learnt the song The Schuyler Sisters from Hamilton, demonstrating some serious girl power. (Miss Tripp double-checked for and edited out any inappropriate bits!) We then improvised some scenes around the theme of ‘sisters’.
