Gala Arts
Like many things, Gala Arts has been a little different this year. Filmed on campus, with lighting design by our talented Yr 12 student Tom Wightwick and sound design by our wonderful AV Technician Ben Peate, our performers nervously waited in the wings for their special moment on a rather different stage to our usual experience. Our innovative performers adapted their work to meet with current health guidelines. The event was compered by our Arts Captains Leilani Heath and Flynn Henry, Captain of Choirs Toby Page, Captain of Small Ensembles Emily Colvin, Captain of Bands Luke Brown, Captain of Strings Cara Eccleston, Captain of Production Tom Wightwick, Captain of Drama Noah Pincini, Captain of Theatre Faith Oosthiuzen and Captain of Dance Lara Dempsey.
Our judges, Greta Argyropoulos (2017), Bradley Kent (2013), Max Mamo (2015), Ailsa Mitchell (2013) met last week via Zoom from Copenhagen, London, Melbourne and Sydney to decide on the winners of Gala Arts. They were joined by our Special Guest and Dance judge Jessica Lyall who attended Redlands with a Dance scholarship from Yrs 7-10 (2002-2005). In 2007 Jessica moved to London to finish her training, graduating in 2010 with a First Class Bachelor of Arts Degree.
In September 2010 she joined the National Dance Company of Spain and was promoted to Soloist in 2013 aged 23. After six years in Spain, she accepted a contract with the Danish Dance Theatre based in Copenhagen. Now ten years into her career, she is particularly interested in the relevance, role and potential of art in today’s society and is involved in projects aiming to improve working conditions and opportunities for artists.
Winners in each category, including our new Multidisciplinary category, the Gala Arts Winner for 2020 and the Winning House will be announced at Speech Day. Please join our Captains and performers as the show goes online!

Musical 2021
The full cast for 2021 will be announced here on Friday 27 November. Opportunities to join the Make Up, Set and Props team will be available at the start of Term 1 2021.
Drama Awards
The Awards for Excellence have now been announced for our Curriculum Drama and Extra Curricular students and will be presented throughout the end of the term. While this would normally have been presented at the Drama Celebration Night before a packed audience in Redlands Hall, I would like to congratulate all our students for their commitment to Drama and Theatre and thank our many teachers who have supported them in their creative activities this year. Involvement in the Arts has never been more significant in supporting and nurturing our students’ wellbeing. Our adaptable staff have created activities and performance opportunities online and on-site, which has allowed our resilient students to connect and create in new and very meaningful ways.
