Students at Redlands are very keen to be involved in environmental sustainability. This is evident by the attendance of the Environmental Club, which meets fortnightly, the constant attention to this in the Student Representative Council (SRC) and the highly successful Greenlands Week.

Students from the SRC and Environmental Club represented Redlands at a Sustainability Workshop for schools across Sydney. Students Sabrina Blasco, Chris Clarke, Lucy Horton, Sholto Mirrlees-Black, Alyssa Tinetti, Erin Tyrrell and Harry Wilkes, attended a training day where they listened to speakers and began to prepare a workshop to present to groups of primary school students. Last Thursday these students presented the workshop to four different groups of students. The primary school students made a model of an endangered species from recycled material which were used in a game style learning opportunity.

It is encouraging that our students understand the biblical view of humanity as the stewards and caretakers of the natural environment that God has created for us. Our student body cares deeply about being responsible stewards of the world to pass onto further generations. The bible speaks in great admiration for the environment and therefore praises the transcendent creator who became human to bring humanity back to its created place. Further it proclaims that while we have an obligation to restore, protect and care for the environment, God will one day intervene to complete the task by entirely transforming the universe to a new creation for us to enjoy with him forever. This is a vision to motivate us to act now as God also values the physical natural environment.

So it is with happiness that the school community take the steps we can to recycle, take a waste audit, use more environment friendly products and collect e-waste. How we care for the environment is yet another way to show our love for God and our love for others.
