Forward Thinking
I had the great pleasure of attending the Executive and Board Retreat over the weekend as we focused on the future strategic design and direction for Redlands. I have often said that Redlands, throughout its illustrious history, has been a school that is willing to be responsive to the changing educational landscape and I am confident that moving forward it will continue this approach. We are excited to have our New Learning Hub coming online next year which will create contemporary learning and teaching spaces for our students and teachers and allow us to even better develop life-readiness in our students.
Mock Trial
Yesterday our Mock Trial team consisting of Yr 12 students, Aleisha Lawrence, Renata Ferreira, Madeleine Howard, Emily Colvin, Stephanie Larcos and Leilani Heath, competed in the Semi Finals of the NSW Mock Trial Competition against Chevalier. It was a tightly contested case which ended in a draw; however, the Redlands team won the “tie-breaker” by successfully arguing a legal question put forward by the presiding magistrate. This result means the Redlands team will compete in the finals of the NSW Mock Trial Competition (a competition that commenced with 200 teams across the state) at the Mooting Court of Sydney University on Thursday 28 November against Loreto Kirribilli. This is a wonderful result for the team and we wish them all the best in the Grand Final. I would like to especially acknowledge Ms Rebecca Mountain for all of her efforts in coaching the team this year. (Pictured at top)
Innovative Design and Textiles Exhibition
Last night we held our Innovative Design and Textiles Exhibition in the John Roberts Centre. Yr 12 HSC Major Works from Design and Technology and Textiles were on display, as well as other works from Yr 10 and 11 Innovative Design and Textiles classes. It was wonderful to see the creativity and application of our students on display this week and from what I have seen, some of these students have some exciting career opportunities in these fields in the not so distant future.
Speech Night
Wednesday 4 December is a student free day at the Secondary School; however, Speech Night is compulsory for all students in Yrs 7-11 that evening. Further details of student arrival times for rehearsals and the event itself will be published in Note Day and communicated to all Secondary School parents over the next few weeks. We look forward to our whole School community coming together on this special evening.
Remembrance Day
As most people are well aware, 11 November is a special day as we celebrate the armistice which signalled the end of World War I. We will commemorate Remembrance Day as a Secondary School community with a minute’s silence during Tutor Period at 11am.
