Service and Social Engagement

At this time of the year we have a changing of the guard in many of the student leadership roles and I am very pleased to welcome our 2020 Service Prefects, Maya Auld and Aymon Holth. I am looking forward to working with them both in the new term, after we return from Yr 11 Camp, to develop our program of Social Engagement and Service initiatives for Term 4 and into 2020.

It is also time to say a very big thanks to the outgoing Service Prefects, Isabel Binnekamp and Lachlan van der Pluijm. Together they have energetically and thoughtfully led many initiatives over the course of the year, helping students to develop a stronger sense of what it means to engage with issues of importance to our community and wider society. They have ably demonstrated the value of leadership through Service, always willing to listen to, support and engage with students and teachers on social issues. They are big shoes for our incoming Prefects to fill.

CanTeen Bandanna Day

Our first activity in Term 4 will be Bandanna Day on Friday 25 October. Throughout Week 2, students will be selling Bandannas to support CanTeen and help make sure that no young person goes through their cancer journey alone. CanTeen help young people cope with cancer in their family. Through CanTeen, they learn to explore and deal with their feelings about cancer and connect with other young people in the same boat. If they’ve been diagnosed themselves, CanTeen also provide specialist, youth-specific treatment teams. Students are encouraged to buy a new 2019 Bandanna for $5 and wear it, particularly on 25 October. Maybe students can buy one for everyone in the family.
