Pockets
There are over 130 Pockets and Merits which have been awarded to Yr 8 students for their involvement in the Winter Sport season. Awards will be presented during Tutor Time on Friday. If a student has received a Pocket, they are able to hand their blazer into the Uniform Shop on Friday afternoon along with their Pocket Certificate. Pockets will be embroidered over the holidays with blazers ready for collection from the Uniform Shop at the end of the break.
Yearly Examinations
Yr 8 Yearly Examinations kick off in Week 4, Term 4. In preparation, students should be ensuring their summary notes are up-to-date, engage in active study and practice test tacking technique. Teachers have been reviewing key study techniques specific to their subject in classes. Dr Prue Satler provides some excellent tips and hints on improving study skills on the Study Skills Handbook (Username: redlands | Password: 68results).
Summer Uniform
All students are expected to arrive on day one of Term 4 in full summer uniform. Many of our students have had growth spurts and need hem and pant length adjustments. There will be a uniform check on day one – this includes hair. We also encourage all students to have their blazer and tie cleaned before the start of the new term. Uniform requirements can be found in the Student Planner.
The Australian Computational Thinking Challenge
The Australian Computational Thinking Challenge assesses students’ computational thinking and problem solving skills. The challenge started in 2014 and is conducted through the CSIRO Education Outreach Program. Since then it has grown so much that there are now almost 60 countries participating with over 1.6 million students each year. Yr 8 students from Redlands partook in this challenge as part of their Digital Technology unit of work for their Technology course. Congratulations to the four students from Redlands who were awarded a High Distinction:
- Lucinda Baird
- Tom Bradley
- Jack Forrest
- Isabella Havryk
Vocal Competition
On Monday evening, the Redlands Vocal Competition was held in the Edwards Auditorium featuring Yrs 7-12 finalists who presented a diverse range of vocal repertoire in creating an outstanding evening of musical performances. Phoebe Barnett, Poppy Justice and Hannah Mitchell were finalists from Year 8. Congratulations to Phoebe Barnett, winner of Division 1.
