It’s a busy time as we enter the last week of the 2025 school year with celebrations and pre-Christmas gatherings. Stay safe, have fun and don’t forget to take a minute to pause and take it all in. Our children grow up so fast, every memory is precious.

Book Club

Last week a number of book club members had a fun night out to see the new film Lee starring Kate Winslet.

The Redlands Book Club is a group of Redlands parents – past and present – who share a love of reading. New members are always welcome! The Book Club meets twice each school term to discuss a book, rotating among members’ homes. Occasionally, outings are also organised to events, movies or shows that are tied in with books. If you would like to join Book Club, and learn where we are meeting this month or simply want to know more, please contact Monica or Sabiha.

The last meeting of the year will be Monday 2nd December at 11am as a Christmas lunch. We will be discussing Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt and celebrating another fun year of reading. New and old members are invited to come along even if you have not read or finished the book!

For some summer holiday reading inspo and the planners the books planned for terms 1 & 2 of 2025 are:

·         Intermezzo by Sally Rooney
·         Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop by Hwang Bo-Reum
·         The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi
·         At the Foot of the Cherry Tree by Alli Parker

Senior School Parent Year Representatives

We are currently in the process of putting together an amazing group of parent year representatives for the senior school in 2025.

You will work together with a small team of other parents in your year group to organise social events, facilitate community communication and welcome newcomers to the school.

If you are interested in being a rep, please send us an email signalling your interest here!

More details on the role of senior school year reps are available here.

Offers to get involved or suggestions on what you would like to see are always welcome!

Volunteer Five

  • Name: Tara Boris
  • Role: Head of Friends of Groups
  • Children: Charlotte (Yr 9), Eloise (Yr 7) and graduates: Anderson (2024), Madeleine (2023)

1) Which superhero would the Friends of HoFoG be: Black Widow – no actual super power but ya’ get the job done!

2) Why you decided to be HoFoG: I think it’s important to “show up” and help out however you can. It’s all for the kids!

3) Why you would encourage others parents to volunteer: It’s a super easy way to be connected to the school community and administration … and you get to know what’s really going on without asking your kids “annoying questions” 😉

4) Trading places with my children: Yes, please!

5) What are your volunteer survival tips: Be optimistic, have a “she’ll be right” attitude but, most importantly, don’t forget we’re all volunteers – treat each other kindly 🙂

A group of Year 6 Class Parents organised a Farewell Fiesta to celebrate Year 6 students graduating. The event was held at the Neutral Bay Club and attracted almost 300 people between students, siblings and many parents. The night was fantastic fun for all.
