Service and Social Engagement

Cambodia 2019

This week the students travelling to Cambodia at the end of the year had their first meeting. Over the course of the year they will be meeting twice a term to plan and prepare for the trip. Their first priority is getting their planning underway for preparing to support the Battle of the Bands event. During the year ahead they will be committing considerable time to learning about the country, engaging in the social issues and developing a deeper appreciation and anticipation for the trip itself. They will also kicking off their fundraising efforts for the year ahead.

Fiji 2019

Students travelling to Fiji will also be gathering for their first meeting in the next few weeks. They will be starting their planning and thinking about how to be well prepared for their trip in the October school holidays. Stay tuned to hear about their progress over the next few months.

Battle of the Bands Friday 4 April

Auditions are underway for this important event in the Redlands Music calendar. Again this year the students travelling to Cambodia will be selling tickets at school in the week before and on the night. Adult tickets $10 and student tickets $5. Students will also be organising the refreshments before the event and during the interval. Lots of Redlands talent will be on display.

Tickets will be on sale on the Senior and Junior Campuses and also on the night.

Mother’s Day Classic Reminder

Another reminder to register for the Redlands team on the MDC site. It’s time to get your group together and get training. There are 59 days to go until the the big day, Sunday 12 May.  Over recent years, Team Redlands has slipped on the leaderboard of competing schools so our honour is at stake! This is a wonderful family-oriented event with categories for serious runners through to fun runners of all ages. Proceeds raised from this event are donated to Breast Cancer Research.

Don’t forget to purchase your Redlands pink caps and a new pink Team Redlands tshirt from the Uniform Shop, all profits going to the MDC. All Redlands winter sports teams are also encouraged to incorporate this event as part of their training and team building.

Register your interest in joining Team Redlands here. You will need to complete the registration process nearly all they way to the payment stage before you can select to join the Redlands team (password = Shine).

Yr 9 Social Engagement

This Year Group are focusing on social inequality this year and at the moment they are particularly looking at gender inequality. They are going to build on our meeting with Room to Read and see what they are able to do to make a financial contribution to the education of girls. $365 will fund a girl in school for a year, so it will be wonderful to see how many girls we can support!
