From the Principal

On Monday our Board Chair advised all parents, staff and students of the appointment of Mr Stephen Webber who will succeed me from the start of 2020. I met Stephen for the first time a month ago and over lunch we talked about our individual experiences. I felt a lot of alignment with the journey he has had in leadership in Australian Independent Schools and I believe that the Board has made an excellent choice. Stephen and I will engage in a handover process as this year progresses, with the goal of helping him to create a seamless transition as he moves Redlands forward. For the remainder of this year my goal is to continue to further progress our strategic priorities with the most able support of my fellow leadership team and our dedicated staff.

Last weekend saw the ISA Basketball Finals at Penrith and I wish to congratulate our 11 teams who contested their respective Grand Finals. I especially congratulate the following teams which were crowned ISA Champions: Girls Junior A, Girls Junior B, Girls Open B, Boys 17B and Boys 14D. Our Junior Girls won the Junior Championship Shield, which bodes well for the future of Redlands Basketball, and our Girls teams achieved 2nd overall in the ISA Girls Competition. More details about the teams’ successes can be found in the Secondary School Sport section of Note Day.

Yesterday we were honoured to host the ISA Swimming Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre. I very much enjoyed attending the event and congratulate all our Redlands swimmers for representing the School so proudly and also a number of Year 10 students who assisted most ably in various roles throughout the carnival. The results from the Carnival will be detailed in next week’s Note Day.

This weekend sees our Rowing crews heading out to Penrith to compete in the Head of the River Regattas (Girls on Saturday and Boys on Sunday), and I wish them all the very best in this major event in the Rowing calendar.

This week’s final congratulations go to Year 11 student Aleisha Lawrence who has just been selected for the 2019 NSW State Debating Squad. She is one of 13 squad members who will undertake specific training in the next month, prior to the selection of the final team of six debaters who will compete in the National Debating Championships on 19-25 May in Darwin.

Foundation Survey

The Redlands Foundation is undertaking a survey to help us gain a greater understanding of the awareness of the Foundation and its activities among our community. We would very much appreciate you taking a few minutes of your time to respond to our survey here. The survey is anonymous and a summary of the results will be shared in the next Foundation newsletter.
