Service and Social Engagement
20/Twenty Challenge UBS
Redlander and 2016 School Captain, Jeff Brown has continued his passionate engagement with social issues. Jeff is working in partnership with the Cancer Council and Sydney University Beta Alpha Psi to manage a portfolio of fundraising and awareness events for the wider community including Business School responsibilities for the management of the Seven Bridges Walk, Biggest Morning Tea and Pink Ribbon Day.
In his role at UBS, Jeff is leading the involvement in the 20/Twenty Challenge to raise much needed funds for Cerebral Palsy Alliance to help children in need on waiting lists for support. With each team raising $8,000 to enter, the aim is to further free up funds for long term research, while ensuring desperate families can receive essential services.
Jeff and a committed team from UBS will be competing in the 20/twentychallenge in support of children living with cerebral palsy. Your support through sponsorship of his team would be greatly appreciated.
Mother’s Day Classic Reminder
Another reminder to register for the Redlands team on the MDC site. It’s time to get your group together and get training. There are 59 days to go until the the big day, Sunday 12 May. Over recent years, Team Redlands has slipped on the leaderboard of competing schools so our honour is at stake! This is a wonderful family-oriented event with categories for serious runners through to fun runners of all ages. Proceeds raised from this event are donated to Breast Cancer Research.
Don’t forget to purchase your Redlands pink caps and a new pink Team Redlands tshirt from the Uniform Shop, all profits going to the MDC. All Redlands winter sports teams are also encouraged to incorporate this event as part of their training and team building.
Register your interest in joining Team Redlands here. You will need to complete the registration process nearly all they way to the payment stage before you can select to join the Redlands team (password = Shine).
Room to Read
Two of our Yr 9 students, Louise Colin and Iris Buisman, and their Year Coordinator Ms Rebecca Mountain attended a dinner on Thursday evening to hear a guest speaker from Room to Read. Merina Sainju is a graduate of the programs which Room to Read provide in schools in Nepal and spoke with the guests at the dinner about how both the literacy and girls’ education programs have changed the lives of girls and their wider communities. Louise and Iris will be able to work with Yr 9 Tutor Groups in the coming year to plan and implement some student-led projects aimed at making a significant contribution to Room to Read.
Battle of the Bands Friday 4 April
Auditions are underway and, if history is anything to go by, it should be another great musical evening at Redlands. Again this year the students travelling to Cambodia will be selling tickets at school in the week before and on the night. They will also be organising the refreshments before the event and during the interval. Lots of Redlands talent will be on display.
