Year 10
Year 10 Course Pathways
This week, Yr 10 attended two significant events in the course selection pathway. On Wednesday night, students and parents heard from the Dean of HSC, Ms Lucy Benjamin and the Dean of IB, Mr Darren Taylor, alongside a range of course experts, about the differences between the course pathways, their structure and suitability. Students engaged keenly in the subject ‘walk’, asking excellent questions about the framework of the different courses and the nature of specific subjects.
On Thursday morning, Yr 10 students had the opportunity to hear from current Year 12 HSC and IB students about the ‘nitty-gritty’ of what it’s like to be a student studying in each course. The Yr 12 panellists were incredible – they shared their insights with vulnerability, articulation, and a real depth of knowledge, offering Yr 10 students a real glimpse into what Year 12 is actually like. The panellists espoused such passion and excitement for the courses they are studying, the content they are learning, and for the teachers who are supporting them, that I have no doubt Yr 10 left feeling enriched and supported by listening to their older peers’ experiences. I encourage parents and carers to ask probing questions about each experience as students look toward making this significant decision for their Senior Studies.
