We celebrated the presentation of the inaugural Redlander Alumni Awards at a dinner in Redlands Hall last Friday evening. It was a wonderful occasion to come together and celebrate the incredible achievements of Redlanders beyond the School gates. The recipients were selected by the Awards Committee, following a nomination process and thorough review. My thanks to all members of the Redlanders Association Committee, especially President Jennifer Farrell, for their strong support of this initiative and to the Community Engagement team at Redlands for making it all possible. Congratulations to the following recipients:

I enjoyed the opportunity to get on the water with the Rowing coaches to observe the crews training in Middle Harbour, even more so on a glorious Saturday morning. I was incredibly impressed with the progress the Yr 7 crews had made in such a short time and their commitment to the program. Friends of Rowing organised a community lunch for the boat shed followed by a boat naming ceremony. Along with the outgoing Captains Elizabeth Holtheuer and Billy Thomas, past Captains of Boats and coaches Kurtis Aroney and William Mulligan, and past President of the Friends of Rowing Sabrina Pauling, I was honoured and moved to have a quad named after me. I wish all crews well for the upcoming regattas and trust the new boats will add some speed and be well enjoyed.

The Board of Directors and Executive team are attending an off-site strategic planning retreat on Friday and Saturday this week. We are looking forward to reviewing our progress on the Strategic Plan along with the opportunity to discuss the refinement of the Master Plan brief which has been formulated following the recent consultation phase. We are continuing to also plan key capital improvements to existing facilities and look forward to being able to make further announcements about these projects prior to the end of the year.

Yr 9 students have been working with purpose on their examinations this week as they look ahead with anticipation to attending their Indigenous Cultural Immersion camp in Arnhem Land next week. After many years in the planning and not being able to run the program ‘on country’ in the NT due to COVID, we are very much looking forward to the entire Year Group being able to have such a significant learning experience together.

Further to the HSC Dance and Drama Showcase nominations we recognised at the end of last term, I now congratulate Yr 12 students Victoria Butler and Tate Boswarva, who have both been nominated for Texstyle, the HSC Showcase for exceptional Textiles and Design major works. Both students and Textiles and Design teacher Annabel Alan were featured in two separate articles on HSC Textiles and Design in the Daily Telegraph earlier this week.

I also congratulate Gianmarco Pradel (Yr 10) on his selection for the Ferrari Driver Academy Scouting World Final. One of only six young drivers from four continents and five countries who will compete for a place in the Ferrari Driver Academy, he is currently in Italy prior to next week’s World Final. Along with another young Australian Driver, Gianmarco was selected as one of the two winners of the 2022 Asia Pacific and Oceania Selection Program, where they undertook a series of intense testing in a Formula 4 car. Gianmarco is very grateful for the opportunity and appreciative of all the well wishes he has already received. He says that he is carrying a piece of Redlands with him on his exciting journey, which you might like to learn more about in this ARTICLE.

All of the exceptional achievements above exemplify the wonderful diversity of passions of Redlands students, both current students and Redlanders.
