Conservatorium News
As we know, entry to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music is highly competitive, and it is no small feat to be offered a place at this world class institution. We are delighted to congratulate six members (and counting!) of the graduating class of 2022 for their offers to the Tertiary Music courses of their choice at the Conservatorium for 2023. We are very proud of your focus and aspirations, and your tenacity as you have chased these. Go well!

MIP Concert
Yr 4 and 5 students are excited to be performing in our annual MIP Concert in Week 4. Parents and guests are warmly invited to attend, so please save the date for Thursday 3 November 2:00pm in Dunnet Hall. All students will be performing in their instrumental groups.
Year 4 2023 – MIP Information session
We warmly invite 2023 Year 4 parents and carers to attend an information session about the Music Instrumental Program (MIP). This session will run in the Arnold Library on Wednesday 2nd November at 2:30pm.

Elective Music Showcases – Year 8, 9 & 10 Soirées!
This week we were entertained by the performances of our Yr 8 & 10 cohorts in Soirées as they celebrated the culmination of their year’s work. For some, this was their first public solo performance – though you wouldn’t have known this from the poised and thoughtful offerings on display across Monday and Wednesday nights. For any member of our community wishing to have a glimpse of our senior curriculum work, all are welcome to attend the final event in our showcase series. Yr 9 will take to the Edwards Auditorium Stage on Monday 31 October 2022 – 4pm (9.1) & 6pm (9.2).
Yr 9 Excursion – SSO Present Mozart’s Haffner Serenade
Yr 9 have been exploring the timeline of Western Music History this year, defining the many sub-genres that fall under the broader banner of Classical Music. This evening, our Yr 9 students have the wonderful opportunity to attend an intimate Sydney Symphony Orchestra concert at Angel Place to hear Mozart’s ‘optimistic and unforgettable’ Haffner Serenade. We look forward to this exciting event!
Yrs 7-10 Theory, Aural and Musicology Exam Support
In addition to support from your class teacher directly, a reminder that the Music Study Centre is open at 7.30am Monday & 3.30pm Friday each week to offer any additional help you may need as you prepare for your final assessments in Music. We are cheering for all our students as they consolidate the big ideas they’ve been exploring in 2022 and wrap up this great year of learning ahead of the coming examination periods.

K-6 Strings Concert | Save the date!

Senior Assemblies – Leadership in action!
Congratulations to the senior students who performed in the Yr 12 Induction service on Monday. Hadley Wintle performed the first movement of the piece Hot Sonate by Erwin Schulhoff with our wonderful school accompanist, Mr Zi Hao Li. Maya Little, Ash Mitchell, Claudia Lalich, Poppy Justice, Sabrina Blasco and Phoebe Barnett led the school in the School Song and National Anthem. These singers also consistently contribute to our Chapel Service music. Their confident leadership is exemplary and greatly appreciated. Many thanks also to Mr Benjamin Peate for his support with the audio requirements at this event.

Private Tuition Studio Concert Series – Save the Date!
The Studio Concerts will be held in Weeks 4 and 5 on the Junior Campus. For Senior Students, the Studio Concert Series will be held in Weeks 6 and 7. Students are working hard to be ready for these performances. These lunchtime concerts will offer a relaxed opportunity for singers and instrumentalists to share their journey with a supportive audience of family and friends. If your child receives private instrumental or vocal tuition, please check for correspondence from your tutor about the potential time of their scheduled studio concert. More information to follow.
