Another week of sunshine created beautiful conditions for Touch Football. Players have demonstrated growth in skills and a deepened understanding of the game over the last few weeks of training. We look forward to seeing these learnings in action, early next term as the competition starts.

A reminder of the holiday program available for all Touch Football students:

On Tuesday 4 October our Touch Football program will be lucky enough to have a player wellbeing workshop run for all students. The workshop will look into the links between physical performance, and all other aspects of life, also touching on performance anxiety and mental fitness.

Sailing

Last weekend was the first round of Redlands series for Sailing. It was a glamorous morning of 10-12 knots and sunshine making it the perfect morning for sailing. Before racing, half of the sailors worked on sailing with a spinnaker in Elliott 7s which saw them sail from the club down the harbour to Double Bay and back. The other half of the sailors sailed in Pacers and worked on their steering and sail trim.

In the second half of the session, we held a few short races. This round was assigned as a non-point score round (no races counted towards the overall series) which allowed all our sailors to dust off the winter cobwebs and get back into the swing of racing.

Fitness Centre

With the 2022 ISA Summer Rep. Season literally on our doorstep, the Fitness Centre will still be available to all students across the holiday period. With sessions across Week Two of the holiday period, the Fitness Centre is the perfect space to develop speed, fundamental movements and also power.

All students can access the morning sessions which run Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday starting promptly at 7:30am and finishing by 9:00am. These sessions are for all Age-Groups and all Sports, so every student is encouraged to bring a mate along with them to the sessions.

Further details will be sent out via Redlands iLearn.

Students are reminded to bring with them the following.

  • A water bottle
  • Towel
  • Redlands PE / Sports Uniform

Sports and students are asked to contact the Director of Athletic Development Mr Jack Gooding jgooding@redlands.nsw.edu.au for any specific questions regarding these sessions.

Rugby 7s

Our Girls Rugby 7s and Learn to Play Program has had a fantastic start with brilliant numbers across all three available sessions. The development across the group has been amazing to see and I cannot wait to see what these wonderful students will accomplish within this sport.

There will be additional Skill / Development Sessions across the second week of the holidays. These sessions will be open to all Age-Groups and are a brilliant way of bringing new students to the sport as well as improving our skill base within the Sport.

Students are encouraged to bring football / moulded boots to this afternoon sessions but runners are fine.

All sessions will be staffed by Redlands Rugby Coaching staff including our Director of Rugby Jack Gooding, our Lead Coach / Touch Football Coordinator Jordy Parsonage and also Wallaroo Piper Duck.

For any questions regarding these sessions, please contact the Director of Rugby Mr Jack Gooding directly on jgooding@redlands.nsw.edu.au

Rugby and Rugby 7s is a trial Sport and, as such, will not have any effect on Summer Rep. Sports. For all students wishing to join these sessions, they must understand that priority must be given to School commitments and also Summer Rep. Sport.

Rugby

With the season done and dusted we can now look ahead to not only the 2023 ISA Rugby Season and the preseason preparation, but also, and more importantly, our 2022 End of Season Presentation.

For this year, the Presentation will be held at the Balgowlah Bowls Club on October the 15th. Students, parents and carers are invited to purchase their tickets through the following link.

Purchase Tickets

With Summer Sport Trials starting across the past week, I understand that the last thing on many of our students minds is the 2023 ISA Season but, with dramatic changes to the number of games as well as the competition we will face, preparation leading into the season is key. For the remainder of the term and into Term 4, the Wednesday morning Fitness Session (6:30am – 7:40am) will include workouts prepared, specific to Rugby Union and building up our strength, power and speed. It would be ideal to see as many of our Rugby athletes attend these sessions, especially all students who are wishing to trial for the 1st XV.

Attendance at Sport

Can we please draw your attention to the following communication process regarding absence from sport:

  1. Parents are required to send an email to the appropriate Sports administrator prior to missing any training session asking for them to be excused
  2. Any student unable to attend a Saturday fixture due to illness, is required to submit a Medical Certificate to their Sports administrator by the Monday morning following the missed fixture

  4. Failure to do any of the above will jeopardise a student’s eligibility for Colours, Pockets, and Awards & result in school disciplinary action
