Year 8

This Week in Yr 8

This week has seen Yr 8 continue to empower their learning journey by setting and sharing precise goals with their tutors in Connection Conversations. The buzz in each room has been tangible – the students have openly reflected on their academic challenges, and carefully considered a key social and emotional skill they are determined to develop this semester. Their willingness to so enthusiastically take part in this most valuable process has been wonderful to witness.

Gala Arts 2022

Last Friday evening saw an impressive showcase of the talent at Redlands on stage at The Concourse. Bravo to all the performers who moved and entertained the audience! Particular congratulations go to Rhuri Oliver for his entry into the Visual Arts section of the program, and special mention to Alexandria Fitzpatrick who was the overall Intermediate Visual Arts winner, with her powerful photograph of shadows and light.

Curriculum Dance Showcase

A big congratulations to the Yr 8 students who performed and showcased their performance works and dance films on Tuesday evening. Students were able to have the opportunity to perform in front of an audience for the first time after two years. Congratulations to: Mia Allsop, Zara Anderson, Lilin Chen, Amelia Codrington, Rory Hobbs, Alannah Koopmans, Amber Kusano, Dante Minassian, Elouisa Yates.

House Debating

We have had a good response in terms of Yr 8 students wishing to participate in our House Debating Competition, which will take place throughout Term 3. Students who may not make the final teams should still come along to the coaching sessions, as Debating is a great activity to promote confidence; develop creative and critical thinking skills, along with collaborative strategies.

In Wks 3 – 5, our Yr 8’s will begin coaching to prepare for these debates. During Wk 6 we have Cowper versus Dumolo; Wk 7 MacDouall versus Roseby and the Yr 8 Final is slated to occur live in the Edwards Auditorium, Week 9.

Many thanks to Ms Rachel Beggs (rbeggs@redlands.nsw.edu.au) for her organisation of this event.
