Mock Trial Round 4 Reflection
The Yr 11 Mock Trial Team traveled to Loreto Kirribilli last Thursday evening for Round 4 of the Secondary Schools Mock Trial Competition. Not only was it Redlands first face-to-face trial of the year, but the team went up against the State Grand Finalists for 2 out of the last 3 years and won!
The Yr 11 team consisted of barristers Dan Close and Lucy Horton, solicitor Harley van der Pluijm, witnesses Claudia Lalich and Daisy Oliver, and Court Officers Charlotte Davis/Helena Dracakis. The Defendant, Claudia Lalich, was charged with driving at a speed dangerous to the public. Although she was caught by the police (allegedly) driving at night on the wrong side of the road at speeds over 160km per hour, the team incredibly navigated their way out of the charges.
At the end of the three-hour trial, the Magistrate shared extensive positive and constructive feedback. He was incredibly impressed with the calibre of the trial and invited any students interested in a career in law to personally get in touch with him for advice and work experience opportunities.
Congratulations Dan, Lucy, Harley, Claudia, Daisy, Charlotte, and Helena!
