Senior Head of the River
Last weekend saw our senior rowers close out the season with the Senior Head of the River held at Iron Cove. Once again our rowers were outstanding with some very strong results across the program. Significant results are as follows:

Summer Tennis
Last Saturday was the final round of the 2021/22 Summer Tennis season. Overall, it was a great season despite the discouraging wet weather. We ended up with Team 1 finishing 2nd in the Northern Beaches Competition, and Team 21 & 22 finishing 2nd within their respective divisions in the Northern Suburbs Competition.
On behalf of the coaches and myself, I would like to thank all parents, carers, and students for being so committed to the early morning training sessions and matches. I would also like to thank all of the students for demonstrating great sportsmanship against other teams and within themselves at training.
Best of luck to all students with their winter sports, and I look forward to hopefully seeing you all back in Summer Tennis at the end of the year.

This weekend sees the Senior and Inter teams heading to Barker College to play across Saturday morning whilst the Junior teams will be in Lang Gym for some more trial matches. The Redlands Rhino has the most up-to-date timings with teams being released tomorrow.
A huge congratulations to Jemma Donoghue (Redlander 2018 and current 1st VII netball coach) who made her debut for the GWS Giants netball team on Saturday night, the Giants came away with a 2 point win against defending premiers the NSW Swifts, it was great to see Redlands represented on the court!

We have trial games scheduled this Saturday 2nd April at Barker College. Rugby
With how weather affected our preseason has been, it is important to really focus on the positives within our squad as a whole and celebrate some of the performances we have already seen.
Last week we highlighted our ISA Representatives in Hugo Scott, Will Pearson and Josh Hicks, looking at how they have already jumped into their training and their focus for another representative season. For this week we are highlighting some the leaders within our program and how they have stepped up already across our trainings and also in our team meetings.
Our first leadership spotlight is on our newest member to the Redlands Leadership group, Freddie Hart in our Under 13s squad. I had the pleasure of watching first hand Freddie’s leadership whilst he was on the Year 7 Camp in Jindabyne. The first person to offer support to a teammate or classmate he was also the first to take on a job and lead. He has been a brilliant addition to our program and I for one cannot wait to see him lead his teammates out in their first match next term. A player to watch in the future for certain.
Elsewhere across program, Oliver Cooke, Jesse Forrest in our Under 15s and Alfie Leach in our Under 16s have continued to build on leadership from last season. All three of these boys will be attending our Rugby Camp in Berry these holidays and I am excited to see them drive standards across the three days.
As I have said, the effect weather has had on our Preseason has been severe, with some teams having only been able to train one session. In speaking with our association, ISA, the Directors of Rugby have agreed that there will be an extended period for Term 2 which will give us more time for additional session and also positive trial periods. More information will be sent out this week and early next which will cover our holiday sessions, the Berry Rugby Camp and also our trial games to begin what will be a fantastic Redlands Rugby Season.
Waterpolo
Waterpolo kicked up a gear on Friday night with the Senior Boys & Girls entering round 2 of the NSSWPA Senior competition, both girls teams have been a little disrupted the last 2 weeks but have continued to grow and impress the coaches with their teamwork, a lot of the girls have been playing multiple games in order to keep the teams from forfeiting which is proving to be great for their fitness. The boys have also continued to gel, with a number of the team learning on the go and picking up what is a very challenging sport.
ProFit Mouthguard Fittings
There will be a representative from ProFit Mouthguards at the school next week, Wednesday 6 April. ProFit Mouthguards are professionally fitted onsite using dental moulds and offer protection for teeth and gums whilst also reducing the severity of concussions caused by contact sports.

All fittings will be held in our Fitness Centre
Fitness Centre
With Winter Sport Trials and preparation for the ISA Winter Sport Season underway, the Fitness Centre is the perfect space to develop speed, fundamental movements and also power. All students can access the morning sessions which run Monday – Friday and start promptly at 6:30am. brilliant numbers across the sessions with over 35 students attending our Wednesday morning session this week.
Students are reminded to bring with them the following.
• A water bottle
• Towel
• Redlands PE / Sports Uniform

Thursday afternoon sport – wet weather arrangements (Year 8-12)
In order to limit student mixing indoors, Students in Year 8-12 who are dismissed at the end of Period 5 are required to go directly home. Sport coaches and Redlands staff will supervise their COVID-safe departure.
Thursday afternoon sport – wet weather arrangements (Year 7)
In the event that year 7 sport is cancelled on Thursday afternoon, students will remain at school until 3.10pm and participate in cohort-based activities.
Thursday afternoon – early departure (Year 8-12)
As we attempt to limit student mixing indoors, there will be no classroom supervision for students who do not have any scheduled sport training on a Thursday afternoon. Therefore, students who do not have training on Thursday afternoon will have permission to leave early.
Fixtures
A friendly reminder that the weekly Fixtures (The Redlands Rhino) can be found on the Secondary School Sport page on Redlands Pulse from Wednesday each week. Please ensure you check this on Friday each week to ensure you have the most up to date fixture information.
Uniform
The Redlands sports uniform should be worn to all trainings and matches (students are not permitted to wear any non-Redlands branded clothing). In the event of inclement weather students should wear their Redlands fleece or sports tracksuit.
Game time and arrival times
Students should arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of their scheduled fixture on Saturday (unless directed otherwise). Please ensure you know where you are playing and the likelihood of traffic on Saturday mornings to allow adequate time.
Attendance at Sport
Can we please draw your attention to the following communication process regarding absence from sport:
- Parents are required to send an email to the appropriate Sports administrator prior to missing any training session asking for them to be excused
- Any student unable to attend a Saturday fixture due to illness, is required to submit a Medical Certificate to their Sports administrator by the Monday morning following the missed fixture
- Injured students are required to attend all training sessions and Saturday fixtures
- Failure to do any of the above will jeopardise a student’s eligibility for Colours, Pockets, and Awards & result in school disciplinary action
Please note that the first unexplained absence will result in a lunchtime detention with further unexplained absences escalating to a Friday afternoon Detention. Please refer to the Student Planner 2022 for full details on requirements for participating in a Representative Sport.
