Year 11
Important Harbour Cruise Information
Tomorrow evening, students should aim to be at Wharf 1, King St Wharf by 6.30pm at the latest so that students can be breath tested by security before boarding the Harbour Cruise.
As mentioned in last week’s Note Day, students will disembark at 10.15 pm tomorrow evening at Wharf 1, King St Wharf. Students must be collected before 10.30pm by a parent or carer. Should you wish to nominate another adult to collect your child, you must email your written permission and name and contact details of the adult to the Year Advisors by tomorrow. Please note that students will not be allowed to leave by taxi or Uber unless accompanied by their parent, carer, or nominated adult.
Yr 11 Covid-19 Illness and Misadventure
Please note that if a student in Years 11 or 12 has tested positive for COVID on a RAT test and is absent for an assessment as a result, they must then go for a PCR test. The positive result from the PCR must be sent into school via an email to SS Absence with Ms Lucy Benjamin/Mr Darren Taylor ccd into the email for the purposes of illness and misadventure. Students should still report their positive test results to the usual people at school too such as their teacher or Subject Coordinator. The positive PCR is their medical certificate as they cannot attend a GP surgery as a positive case.
Negative RAT result with symptoms of Covid-19
If a student is off sick on the date of an assessment and testing negative for COVID on a RAT, they still need to visit their GP for a medical certificate that should cover their entire absence. If their symptoms overlap with COVID symptoms, they may need a PCR before they can visit the GP; they will need to get the PCR, await the result and then go and get the medical certificate.
Close Contact
If a student is a close contact of a family member who has contracted Covid-19 and needs to stay at home to isolate and misses out on an assessment, they need to email through to SS Absence with Ms. Lucy Benjamin and Mr. Darren Taylor ccd into email, along with a screenshot of the positive PCR test result from the family member who has contracted COVID-19.
International Women’s Day
On Tuesday, Yr 11 celebrated International Women’s Day along with the rest of the School. The global theme for International Women’s Day in 2022 is ‘Changing Climates: Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow’. This year’s theme is all about recognising and amplifying the important role women and girls around the world play in addressing climate change. Gendered norms and ideas of what a woman’s role should be in society often mean that women and girls experience the impacts of climate change and natural disasters differently. Yet in spite of this, their voices are frequently side-lined when it comes to developing solutions to the climate crisis – with 67% of all climate-related decision-making roles currently held by men.
Yr 11 Study Skills Session with Prue Salter
To help our Yr 11 students become more powerful learners and to give all students a greater opportunity to improve and maximise their marks in the senior years, the school have organised a study skills session next Monday during Periods 5 and 6. Dr Prue Salter of Enhanced Learning Educational Services will be conducting the session, building on the work done in previous years at the parent/student study skills events. This will be a valuable session for Year 11 which will help guide their senior studies for the next two years.
Culture College NSW Cultural Immersion Experience – Yr 10 and 11, 19 – 25 April
We are delighted to offer a NSW-based cultural immersion program with our partners at Culture College. This replaces the planned Homeland trip to Northern Territory, and means we are able to offer this experience to more students in Years 10 and 11.
Based on Dharug Country near Wiseman’s Ferry, and with the support and involvement of Dharug and Yuin elders and community members, this alternate program will offer similar authentic learning experiences planned for Arnhem Land yet on local country with a local context.
These include visiting important Indigenous sites, learning about kinship, connecting to country, dreaming stories, men’s and women’s business and other cultural activities.
The program represents a unique opportunity for our students to immerse themselves in local Aboriginal culture that few people in NSW will experience. It offers not only benefits to our students and community but is a continuing source of employment for Indigenous people in uncertain times.
The dates for this program are from Tuesday 19 April to Monday 25 April inclusive. The total cost of the program is $2,965.
