International Women’s Day

This week, Yr 9 celebrated International Women’s Day. We were lucky enough to have Betti Butcher, Lara Prineas, Jemima Hugman and Georgie Williams work closely with our school leaders to put together a wonderful assembly and beautiful artwork which provided students an opportunity to reinforce commitment and action forging women’s equality, while also celebrating women’s achievements. Our assembly guest speaker, Captain Casey Scully-O’Shea CSC, RAN, provided students with a wonderful insight into her past, current and future aspirations as a female leader within Defence.
Captain Scully-O’Shea joined the Royal Australian Navy through the Australian Defence Force Academy in 1995, where she enjoyed three years undertaking military training while also completing a Bachelor of Science through UNSW Canberra. Qualified as a Maritime Warfare Officer, Captain Scully-O’Shea’s service history included sea and shore postings in Darwin, Cairns, Sydney and Canberra. Her sea-going highlights included supporting Border Protection Operations as an Officer of the Watch and later Navigating Officer of HMAS Cessnock, and an exchange posting to the Royal Canadian Navy Sail Training Ship HMCS Oriole. Captain Scully-O’Shea had been employed across the Australian Defence Force in Navy Headquarters, Fleet Command, Defence People Group and Headquarters Joint Operations Command. Since 2009, she developed deep expertise in Organisational Development and Reform through roles recruitment, leader and team development, culture transformation, design-led innovation and strategic communications. She was awarded a Conspicuous Service Cross in 2020 for her outstanding achievement in the field of recruiting and in February 2022, she was appointed as Director of Navy Culture.

Japanese Girls Day
The 3rd of March is Girl’s day in Japan and the Yr 9 Japanese elective class celebrated this special day with Hina dolls and special Mochi sweets.
Portrait and Sibling Photo Catch Up Opportunity Friday 18 March
Students who were unable to attend portrait and sibling photos last week can attend a catchup opportunity on Friday 18 March from recess through to Tutor time at the level 2 Redlands Learning Hub Presentation Space. All students are required to be wearing their full school uniform, including blazers. Boys must be clean shaven with hair that has been cut so that it is away from eyes, ears and collar. Girls with hair touching the collar should tie it back with navy accessories (elastics, ribbon, scrunchies). No hair dye, make-up or nail polish is permitted. No jewellery is to be worn other than one pair of plain gold or silver studs in ear lobes.
